(H sunenteuxi paraxwrithike ston Silent_Enigma, stis 31 Augoustou 2003,apo ton Torben,
dhmiourgo tou sugkrotimatos Diorama..)
1- Hello Torben! I would like you to tell me a few things about Diorama.
Go ahead!
2- From the beggining the line-up is still the same?
No.. Diorama started out as a solo project and then Felix joined and then Bernard joined.
3- "DIORAMA" I think that is a greek word! Right? What means for you "DIORAMA"?
I think you're perfectly right. Aren't most of the dio- words greek, like dioptrine, dioxide, dionysos...? diorama stands for the framework of an artificial form of communication. Diorama is like a spaceship for your emotional life, like a liberation device, like a magic circle of friends, like a lake in the desert.
4- Your last album is called "The Art Of Creating Confusing Spirits". Very strange title... Tell me a few about this album!
The strange title reflects the strange period of time when the album was written and recorded. It's about three somewhat lost indiviuals only getting to grips with things being cocooned in the studio. Everything else was ambiguos and downright confusing. music is the great escape from your permanent epilepsy, when you're running the risk of completely drowning in your daily routine.
5- Your first release was "Pale" (April 1999) what do you remember from these days? The music of Diorama is more different now from then?
I remember long studio nights with my dear friend Adrian, lots of mezzo mix, lots of overwhelming joy and the feeling of waking up sleeping ghosts. Songs like "leaving hollywood" and "said but true" were like tales from a secret world i knew i had to explore. The music has developed since then, just take a listen, but the pure and naive approach towards writing has remained.
6- Your record-label is ASCENSION-RECORDS which belong to Adrian Hates (Diary Of Dreams). Tell me a few things about him! He helped you in the beggining of your carreer?
Adrian has a pool of inspiration inside of him that just never runs dry. The way he turns his life into melodies is unique. I've never seen someone working on his musical ambitions with more doggedness and sincerity. His professionality and my passionate energy were a perfect cocktail during the production of 'pale'.
7- Are there any bands from your record-label that you like to listen?
Yes and no. My favourites would include diary, claire voyant and angels of venice.
8- In 25/10 you are coming to Greece to play on a Gothic-festival! Tell me a few things about this! I heard that with you will play and Blutengel!Anyother?
Go to their website: http://www.medievalindustry.com/seelenschmerz I suppose I couldn't tell you anything else...
9- This is the first time that you will come in Greece?
Yes! We're enlighted... Yes! Yes! Yes!
10- I find your music very melancholic! Could you describe it to me with a few words?
No. I really hate this question. I'm sorry...
11- Before one year was released the "The Art Of Creating Confusing Spirits". From then have you written any new songs?
As I've been travelling through Spain the last couple of months, I could only write in my head. My laptop is full of lyrics and ideas for the next album, but I need black and white keys to work them up. I wish I could conserve ideas by writing notes on a music paper and later on just reading them off, but I can't. And I wish I could play more than 5 chords on the guitar. It's fucked up. Anyway, Felix also hasn't been inactive in the meantime. There are some interesting sounds waiting for us. We're expecting a golden winter in the studio.
12- Your official web site is very strange! Who is responsible for the site?
I know it's not as fancy as some of the other artist sites, but we wanted something special. The person in charge is our webmaster, Monsieur Preudhomme.
13- Which are the differences between "Her Liquid Arms" and "The Art Of Creating Confusing Spirits"?
There are various opinions on that one. I can't simplify it and I've never really thought about it.
14- Who is responsible for the lyrics? What they are talking about?
It's funny, a lot of lines are first-take words and singing, and I can't even remember how they've come up, except for having the feeling of someone watching over me. don't ask me, what they talk about. I'd be bored if i knew. Current lyrics seem to be about trying to find a lyrical way out of the trap of regretting past actions (it destroys you). Or about shooting the people you see on tv through the screen. Or about crossing the atlantic on the back of a giant shark, waving a bottle of bombay sapphire, blowing kisses to the mermaids. It's all an illusion.
15- Do you know any greek-band?
I feel ashamed. The only greek musicians gaining some popularity in Germany are aliens like Costa Cordalis or Nana Mouskouri. I feel very ashamed. I'm not an expert. There must be so many terrific bands out there in Greece. Blame it on the lack of promotion they receive in other countries.
16- Now that you will play live what songs you will play? Any new song?
I don't know how long we'll be allowed to perform, but it'll sure be too short for experimenting on new tracks. I guess we'll do what we always do, playing a balanced assortment of tracks from the different cds. Any requests? Let us know..
17- Are there any new songs ready for your next release?
Not yet. Only some intoxicant raw material.
I hope to see you in Greece very quickly!!!!!
Thank you. Lay aside some bottles of greek wine and let us all have a good time!!
