Episode Guide

Here you can see all episodes in Season 1. Each guide will include a breif overveiw of the episode, a quote, cast and crew and a look at how it fits within the whole season, or series.

Welcome to the Hellmouth/ The Harvest

Buffy and her mother arrive in Sunnydale after leaving LA and Buffy's previous school Hemary High. Upon starting her new school, Sunnydale High, Buffy is assured that the fact that she was expelled from her last school for burning down the gym won't be held against her. It is then that Buffy meets the delightful Miss Cordelia Chase, initally befriending her, until she extends the hand of friendship to Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris, considered 'nerds' by Cordelia and the Cordettes. It is also in this episode that we meet Giles, the libarian and Buffy's watcher, for the first time. He initally confronts her with a heavy volume labled 'Vampyr', causing her to run from the libary. Unfortunalty she is forced to return 'due to the extreme dead guy in Aura's locker'. But shows her obivous dislike for the place.

Later that evening we meet Angel breifly, when he follows Buffy to warn her the harvest is coming and give her a silver cross, this is, of course, not the first time Angel has seen Buffy, having watched her get 'chosen' in LA. Buffy ignores Angel and goes to the 'Bronze', a local club, hoping to leave her vampire experiances with her father in LA.

In a sunken church, underneath the Libary, Luke, a vampire, awakens the master in preparation for the harvest. The Master is a very old vampire who has been trapped in the church for 60 years, due to him geting stuck while trying to open the mouth of hell.

Luke sends vampires out to find food for the newly risen Master, the vampires lure Jesse and Willow into their trap, Buffy manages to save Willow, but Jesse is taken. Buffy goes to rescue Jesse, followed by Xander, however when they find him he's been 'sired'. Thankfully they escape.

During this time Giles and Willow have been researching, with thier information they set out to stop The Harvest. The vampires are attaking the Bronze, Buffy succeeds in killing Luke, amoung others, and the Harvest is prevented. Xander killed Jesse, but Darla survived.

Quotes

Cordelia- Its in the bad part of town.

Buffy- Where's that?

Cordelia- About half a block from the good part of town, we don't have a lot of town.

Buffy- Hi.

Willow- Why? I mean Hi. Do you want me to move?

Buffy- OK lets start with hi, I'm Buffy, then head straight into me asking you for a favour, it doesn't involve moving, but it does involve hanging out with me for a while.

Willow- But aren't you hanging round with Cordelia?

Buffy- I can't do both?

Willow- Not legally.

This is because Joss was writing from his origanal script, not the actual, film. This is also the first time we see Angel, a seemingly insignificant character, yet will go on to become a large part of Bufy's life. This episode also features the first of Buffy's dreams, this will be revisited many times in the future.

The Witch

Slaying + Cheerleading = Ewwww. During this episode, in a bid to have a next to normal life, Buffy decides to try out for the cheerleading squad, much to Giles' discust. However during the first audiction one of the girls spontanouly combusts. Meanwhile Amy Madison is under feice pressure from her mother, former cheerleader, to make the team. Much to her, and her mothers, dissapointment she only makes 3rd alternate. And sure enough 3 people are forced to drop out. Buffy turns into a gibbering idiot, and is nearly killed, Cordelia loses all sight and Lishannes mouths is sealed over.

Putting two and two together, Buffy and Gilkes rush to the Madisons house to confront the mother. When they arrive, however, it is soon clear that it isn't Amy who's casting spells, it her mother in her body. Fortunatly Giles can reverse the spells. However while doing this Amy/her mother, tries her hardest to stop them, using all sorts of magics. Buffy succeeds in reversing one of the spells to affect the mother and she is trapped inside the cheerleading trophe she gained years ago.

Teachers pet

Buffy is assured by her Biology teacher that he has faith in her, despite her record. Unfortunatly by the next day he is found dead in the frezers in Sunnydale High canteen, absent a head. His subsitue, Miss French, has all of the boys in his class turned to gibbering fools. The first suspect is a vampire called Claw, due to his claw in place of his hand. However when he runs from Miss French during Buffy's patrol, she begins to think something else is up.

Buffy suspects she may be a Praying Mantis, due to her amazing neck, as in it can turn 180 degrees, and the fact they have studied little else since she took over the class. Giles seeks advise from a mad friend who had claimed to fight a She-Mantis, as he called it. However while coming to the conclusion that Miss French is indeed one of these creatures, she has captured both Xnader and Blyne, with the intent of mating and then killing them.
