South Park, Park County, Colorado is a uniquely beautiful area in the central part of Colorado. Many have chosen to live in South Park full time and many others have bought property here for recreational uses, summer retreats, investment properties, future home site, and a myriad of other reasons. (There are literally thousands of five acre lots or larger that are privately owned in Park County and most of these are in South Park. We vehemitly urge all Park County Officials, especially the County commissioners to support this grass roots effort to save South Park from this pending mining fiasco.)
It is very unlikely that any of these individual property owners ever thought or imagined that an outside entity with no vested interest in the long term well being of South Park's environment, habitat, water quality, or human health hazards would come here to mine for Uranium. Mining Laws in Colorado that date back from 1872, which were structured to giving mining the first priority in land use, have set the stage for a confrontation between Mining interests and the interests of full time South Park Residence and individual property owners from all over the United States. It is inconcievable that a Mining Company and it stockholders, citing these 1872 Law, would be given the legal authority to come onto a person's property, drill dozens of wells, ravage the property surface, compromise the water quality under the property and surrounding areas, and to add insult on top of injury, leave radioactive contamination under the ground, on the ground, in the atmosphere, and surrounding areas for miles. This mining company is only interested in extracting a mineral commodity, processing it, and profiting its stockholders and its executives. Concern for the South Park community is a low priority for them and they will appease and assure everyone that there is nothing to be concern about and that everyone will benefit. When the Uranium mining operations that, have taken place in the USA, CANADA, AUSTRAUAL, RUSSIA, EUROPE, are examined, the end results are profits for the mining entities and devastated land and water left in its aftermath. We must not resign to the power and forces behind the mining industry. We must unit and protect the Environment of South Park, its water quality, its habitats, our personal property investments. We must let these mining interest know that we don't need or welcome their profit seeking ventures at our expense. We must insist that our County elected officials, State elected officials, and those appointed in various governmental agencies are sensitive and accountable to the will of the people they represent.
