- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

At this point, roughly 1 out of every 500 Americans are on a Sex Offender Registry! We must ask ourselves
“What in the world is going on?”
When
Americans are in distress.....
90% of Americans on Sex Offender Registries are Low to Medium risk.
Their civil
liberties and civil rights are being denied each day by politicians.

SOSNet is an information resource for all citizens wanting to see a solution to the sex offender issue. This problem is very complex and casting a broad net is detrimental to our society. Rational thought needs to replace sensationalism for effortless profits and fear for votes. These actions will not only take courage, it will require sensible leaders and citizens. Our mission is to dispel the myths and misconceptions about sex offenders with facts and truth, making all families safer.
Look at our statistics page, Facts v. Myths to find out the myths and misconseptions versus the FACTS.
We do not condone, in any way, abuse, especially the sexual abuse of children. We do not, and will never make excuses for former offenders or their offenses. We believe that repeat offenders need to be separated from society, and released conditionally on proof of reform. We do acknowledge the fact that false accusations are made, people make mistakes (even stupid ones) and believe each case should be judged on its own merits, using empirical evidence and not hearsay. We know that people can change, improve themselves and accomplish their own human revolution. We encourage you to approach this issue with an open mind and value the essence of every persons humanity.
President John F. Kennedy once said:
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived, and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.”

What if we don't change the way we handle the sex offender issue?
Two things will definitely happen:
1) Women and children will continue to be abused, around 95% of sex abuse cases are "new offenders". Additionally, in child sex abuse cases, around 90% involve a family member or someone close to the family (i.e. a babysitter, day care worker, clergy member, friend, etc.). In cases against women, the vast majority of perpetrators are a date or close acquaintance. Currently, the United States leads other industrialized countries by a 2 to 1 margin in the rape of women.
2) More offenders will feel the need to abscond to keep their jobs or their families together. Spouses and parents of intra-familial offenders will be reluctant to report abuse, fearing decades on the registries and progressively more repressive banishment laws. The victims and offenders of unreported intra-familial offenses, who do not receive therapy, create opportunities for more offenses and victims. This is a key point, remember statistics show that 90% of offenses against children occur within the family or by someone who the family trusts.
Want proof? Look at the stats, then do your own research. Read the SOhopeful International Report to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. We are confident your findings will be the same as ours. Currently Sex Offender Registries are increasing at 8% per year. Ask yourself, if the registries are working, why do we have this type of increase. Is it because the politicians are telling lies for votes, trying to make you feel safe? We need smarter laws, not more of the same that are ineffective and deprive offender families basic constitutional protection and civil liberties. National Sex Offender Policy Forum. Think about this:
"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."
