Sooty Paints

Reasonable prices for racing paint jobs.

Welcome to Sooty Paints

Welcome to the Sooty Paints website, my aim is to showcase some of the shells painted by myself. All shells are airbrushed by hand, and therefore 100% unique in their appearance. All paint jobs include cutting out of the shell and applying decals for lights etc., except when requested otherwise. I have sprayed various types of shells from 1/5th off road to 1/18th Tourers, and am therefore experienced at what amount of detail I can put into the various sizes.

The paint used for all shells is the Faskolor acrylic, and all shells are backed with Faskoat to give a hard wearing nitroproof membrane. If required internal decals may be used from the HPI or XXX range. These are charged for at RRP + £5-00 for application. Lead times for painting do vary dependant on workload, but all work is done by myself. I try to keep the waiting time down to a maximum of 2 weeks, but this will be largely dependant on how much extra work this site generates!

A popular request is a set of photos giving a complete story of the preparation and painting process, this is done with a series of e-mail attachments for you to keep track of exactly what work went in for your hard earned cash. I now offer this service free of charge with every order taken, they are not top quality photos but do give a reasonable representation of the work that goes in to a design.

Prices vary depending on complexity and number of colours used, but I do not spray shelf queen shells. I therefore have a maximum price of £60 excluding shipping and shell price. When ordering a shell please include the part number of the required shell, and manufacturer. 'I want a scooby' dont cut the mustard I'm afraid! Orders can be taken by e-mail, phone, or visit (usually at a race meeting). Payment terms are strictly with order, and Royal Mail Special delivery cost will be added to every order to cover postage. My e-mail address is: sootybigwheels@btinternet.com and my phone number is: 01746 769201.

The following pages give some ideas on designs already sprayed, and a chance for you to design your own using shell templates.
