*cough* Now that I've sufficiently annoyed you... Another reason to check out the new site is because there's a lot of new stuff. More background info, a new guestbook, even a chatroom and a new backstory based on Vivienne and Boyd. All the chapters are up there, and I think I caught all the main parts I'd changed on this site when I uploaded them over there.

Note for AFFN readers who saw the chapters updated around 8-10pm Central on Sat 3/3/07:
If you read Rescue + Aftermath, go check AFFN again. It should have been Determination + Rescue. I'm a moron and added the wrong chapters... After babbling about the different chapter numbers over here I totally forgot when I uploaded and skipped a chapter on accident. This is why I don't touch AFFN. Sonny is much more intelligent than I am. ^_~ Sonny fixed it though so the correct chapters are up now.

Please note these updates 3/3/07 at Penumbra:

• I (Ais) added a lot of information on this homepage. Please see the below paragraphs about what should be at this site, why we haven't added more pages, and the status of the chapters. And let us know what you think!
  
• I also added some info/updated under the headings "Read the Story" and "Tell us what you think"
  
• The page 'About' was changed to 'Story Info'
  
• I removed the Author Bios that were on About because they don't fit the page theme anymore.
• A brief origin of how the war started was added to Story Info as per Brighttears' good point in a review over at AFFN.

Hey guys! Okay here's what's up with Penumbra-- rather sneakily, freewebs limits the number of pages available to free accounts but doesn't tell this until a person's already created a site and started working on it. I (Ais) have space I've had for awhile through another server/host but I've been having issues for months trying to get it to work.

So at the moment we're operating through here. Freewebs is pretty sweet if you like Site Managers (I prefer straight up HTML but I suck at web design by the way so when we eventually switch servers it won't be nearly as pretty). But with the number of chapters we have + the other crap we wanted to put up, we've already reached our page limit. Which means if we add anything new, something has to go.

SO! Here's where you can help! If you get the chance, please vote in the poll on what should be at this site, or just let us know what you think in a review at AFFN, the guestbook here, or else email us at sonnyais@gmail.com. We want to make the most of this site while we're on limited space but don't know if we should leave it like this or put other stuff up.

I (Ais) am still figuring out how this site works and frankly I'm trying to do too many things at once to spend proper time on making another good poll.

So. If you answered you wanted more info and/or side stories in the above poll, please tell us what you want! I removed the Author Bios just to save space but that could come back if people want. What other type of information are you interested in? If you want stories, who/what do you want to see stories of? Tell us anything you'd like to see, even if you don't think we'll do it.

We can't promise we can actually do what people want/ask for, but we'll at the very least take it into consideration and try to do what we can. Depending on if it's stuff that comes up later in the story we may not do it now. But it would be great to know if you're interested in stuff that we haven't provided and what that is.

In the Company of Shadows is a story about two people who are thrown together as partners in a secret agency; their mission is to disband rebels who have propagated in a post-war future, but they have to deal with everything that comes with an unlikely partnership as well. Miscommunication, periods of distance, fleeting smiles and learning to trust someone when a person can't even trust himself, these are what they struggle with while still trying to do their jobs. One is a psychopath, called a murderer and monster and generally deemed subhuman by nearly everyone who knows him; the other is an introvert, cold and emotionless and so lost in thoughts that he would agree that he can be called a monster of inhumanity. But what makes a person human; is it humanity, compassion, or is it simply the ability to reason? Can a monster be human, and general humanity breed monsters?

While they learn about each other, they learn about themselves; where their loyalty and morality lies, and how learning to trust another person can be incredibly difficult, bittersweet, and rewarding all at the same time. Join Hsin Liu Vega (aka 'Sin') and Boyd Beaulieu as they struggle to find themselves, each other, and where they fit in a world slowly recovering from war.

Slash. Male/male relationships and situations, in some parts graphic. If you don't like m/m, then you might not like this story.
Het. Male/female relationships and situations, only mildly graphic.
Violence. In parts, the violence is graphic. Be forewarned that there can be blood and gore.
Language. This is not a child-friendly story, and neither is the language.
Angst. This story can be dark, and the mood follows. Although there is also happiness and humor, the story does contain dark emotions, angst, and sadness. Just like life.
Lemons and limes. Graphic sexual descriptions, almost entirely male/male.
Instability. The characters are human but not always entirely sane.

NOTE: This is to answer two very good questions people asked in the guestbook (thanks jayree and Seductive Extinction).

• Currently, AFFN has the most recent chapters and this site does not. It may be best to check AFFN to read the story.
  
• Ais changed a few things in the chapters put on this site, but they were small details she forgot to note so they can't be changed at AFFN yet. Although there may be small discrepancies between Penumbra and AFFN's chapters, Penumbra has the most accurate but AFFN has the most recent.
• There are some title changes between AFFN and Penumbra mostly because Sonny usually deals with AFFN and Ais usually deals with Penumbra. When Ais was putting up the site she realized some of the chapters didn't really have titles (like the first chapter) and, in her typical fashion, she just changed things willy nilly. On a random note, technically Vulnerability is just Chapter 10 and the rest are all one chapter off in numbering. We put Vulnerability into two chapters in AFFN originally because we didn't want to overwhelm people. Of course, later chapters ended up being much longer so the joke's on us XD
