Chao Basics

What are Chao? Chao are creatures similar to virtual pets. If you treat your Chao well, they'll be happy. If you don't, they won't like you and may run away. Chao are usuallly timid at first, so you need them to get used to you. Before you can begin, you need to hatch your chao. There are three ways to hatch a chao. The first way is to pick up the egg and shake it using the X button and control stick. The second way (which I don't recommend) is to throw the egg. If you do it this way, the Chao may be afraid of you. The third way isd to let the egg hatch itself. Once the Chao hatches, you want to feed it so its not hungry. To do this, just shake a tree until fruit drops, then pick up the fruit and give it to your chao. Once the chao's done eating, Pick up your Chao and exit the garden. Now go to the Kindergarden. Head to the Fortune-Teller to name your chao. You can pick your own name or ask the Fourtune-Teller to give the Chao a name. I named my first chao Angel.

Gardens (Sonic Advance 2 Battle)

There are three Chao Gardens. First there's the Chao Garden. The Chao Garden has two eggs and is avalible at the start of the game. You can enter the Chao Stadium from here using the cave behind the waterfall. The second garden is the Hero Garden. The Hero Garden is unlocked once your Chao becomes a Hero Chao. The Hero Garden is suited for Hero Chao. Any type of Dark Chao will not like this garden. This garden floats on pink clouds and has a large pool in the center. A large Ruin acts like a diving board. You can dig to find pumpkins here. My Chao, Angel, lives in the Hero Garden. She loves it, too. I normally find her either sleeping or swimming. The Dark Garden is unlocked when your Chao becomes a Dark Chao. The Dark Chao is the opposite of the Hero Garden. (Sort of like Heaven and Heck for chao.)

First Evolution

After about one Chao year (around 3-4 hours), Your Chao will evolve. Your Chao evolves depending on how ou care for them and what items you give them. Your Chao will first evolve into either a Hero, Dark, or Netural Chao, then will change its class. There are many different classes. They are: Swim, Fly, Run, Power, and Normal. Here are the Chao from the first evolution. First you will see whether that chao is a Hero, Dark, or netural, then you will see what class its in.

Tiny Chao Garden

If you have a GBA, you can connect it to you GCN with a GBA-GCN Link Cable. If you have Sonic Advance or Sonic Advance 2, and you've unlocked the Tiny Chao Garden, you can save chao sent from the GCN in your SA gamepack. If you don't have SA, the GCN will download a version of TCG to your GBA. The minigames your GBA gets depend on the GCN Sonic Game. All TCG versions have the Card Matching Game. Sonic Adventure DX has a Chao Finding Game, and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle has a Rock-Paper-Siccors Game. Sonic Advance 2's TCG has a Cheese Toss Game. Those three are the ones I am familer with, though there is more.

Sending Chao to the TCG

To send a Chao to the TCG from your GCN, first you need to connect your GBA. Put the GCN cable in GCN Controller slot 2, 3, or 4. Turn the GBA on. If you are playing SA or SA2, open the TCG. Now, on your GCN, pick the chao you want to send to the GBA. Pick up the chao and head to the Chao Transporter (The big Gameboy Advance Machine in the Chao Garden). Step on the Big Red Button. A new screen will come up. If the TCG is empty (In other words, it doesn't have a Chao), Select Drop Off. After a few comfirmation screens, the Chao should be transported to the GBA. If another Chao is in the TCG, put down your chao, return to the transporter, and select Pick Up. A screen will come up. It will show all items in the TCG that you can transport to the GCN. Item's you can transport are: Fruits/Nuts, Eggs, Chao, and Rings. NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT PUT EGGS, RINGS, OR FRUITS/NUTS BACK INTO THE GBA. Pick up the wanted Items/Chao. If no chao are in the TCG afterwards, you can put one in. Note that if you have an egg in the TCG, it might hatch on its own. To prevent this, pause the GBA by pushing start on the GBA. When you are ready to drop off a chao, Unpause and select Drop Off on the GCN.

Chao Races

If you enter the Race Hall on the GCN, and your GBA is still connected and unpaused, and you have a chao in the TCG, You can enter that chao in a race. You use the GBA like you would a GCN controller. Note that the GBA player can only race in Multiplayer Races and that the GBA player can only use the chao in the TCG.

TCG Shop

If you press L while on the main TCG Screen, you'll open the Shop Menu. You can buy fruits, toys, and eggs from the shop. Some eggs can only be found in the TCG Shop. Before you can buy anything, though, you need rings.

Earning Rings

To earn rings, you need to play minigames. To play minigames, select one of the GBA images near the Top Right Corner of the Screen. Each GBA leads to a different minigame. There are two minigames in TCG, Card Matching and one minigame unique to the version of TCG you're playing. The minigames arn't too hard to figure out. Note that in the SA versions of TCG, you can also earn the rings you find in Acts. Any rings you find in TCG can be transported to the GCN. I recommend transporting rings if you are using a temporary version of TCG, but do this when you are done raising chao in the GBA.

Happy Chao Rasing!

Chaos Chao

The Chaos Chao are extremely rare to create. They are immortal and never die. There are three types of Chaos Chao:

Angel Chao: Hero Chaos Chao

Light Chao: Normal Chaos Chao

Devil Chao: Dark Chaos Chao

To make a Chaos Chao, you first need a chao that has been reincarnated at least twice. Then, you need to give them one of each 21 animals (NO CHAOS DRIVES!!!), and raise it to the alignment you want (Hero, Dark, etc.). Then, you let it evolve like any other chao.

Angel Chao: Use Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles to raise this Chao before it evolves.

Light Chao: Use Light and Dark Characters evenly.

Devil Chao: Use Shadow, Eggman, and Rouge to raise this Chao before it evolves.

Once you have a Chaos Chao, you can give it whatever you like. Note that Chaos Chao cannot breed.

Though you cannot give a Chao any Chaos Drives or more than one of each animal while you are trying to evolve it into a Chaos Chao, you should feed it normal fruits otherwise it will get hungry and will get mad at you!

My Chao

I have tons of Chao, and I won't mention all of them here. Here my best chao:

Ocean (Hero): Shiny Blue Chao with really high stats. Stats: Swim LV91, Fly LV99, Run LV81, Power LV84, Stanima LV95

Angel (Hero): Hero Chao with decent stats. Stats: Swim LV31, Fly LV27, Run LV18, Power LV20, Stanima LV40

Welcome
