You watch as he drifts away from the others, sinking down so the light could play on his skin when you notice Shimmer hovering not too far away. She's watching this new commer as well and you notice a slight gleam in her eye that has nothing to do with the bright sun.
"Why don't you talk to him?" you whisper, offering the young Jinx a small smile. She tilts her head at you, not quite sure, and then dives under to where Guy waits. He gives her a strange look as he watches her swim to him, the light dancing off of her beautiful skin reminding him of life in a coral. She really is quite beautiful. They swim together side by side for awhile and when they finally surface for air they stay up, only slightly out of ear shot. She giggles after a moment and then they swim over together to keep pace on either side of Tantrum.
"Papa," Shimmer breathes, her voice even reminding you of gently dancing light, "Guy and I....We've decided to be mates."
Tantrum glances at her out of the corner of his eye, then turns to Guy who looks rather grim and silent. You hold your breath and float in the water, hoping things work out for the best.
"Can you take care of her?" Tantrum demands, and then turns and attacks his daughter. Everyone gathers in a circle at the same time, and even you fall into place without realizing it as Guy gets in Tantrum's way. There's a fierce fight with so much confusion and splashing it's hard for you to keep track and then Tantrum starts to sink to the bottom. Shimmer and Guy both swim down to help him back up and after a moment to recover he grins, practically beaming, and cries "My girl's got a mate!"
You laugh, you can't help it, and the circle breaks apart to celebrate this new comming of age for the beautiful girl. Ripple's the happiest for her, and when Splash starts to tease Guy in fun he sticks up for his sister's mate. But now you wonder who this good hearted male will have for a companion. With a smile you can't help but think it would be you if you were only a Jinx as well. You know he deserves someone though, and you make a note to be sure that it's the right someone for him as he chases Skipper away so his sister can have some alone time with her new mate.
He turns back to check on the pair when Suntset catches his eye. She's been following him since they headed out and for a while you think it's just because she looks up to him. When he goes off to talk to her though you see her steal a quick kiss before diving down into the water. She seemes as sweet as Ripple and you find yourself approving greatly. It's a blessing that so many have come together to form the pod. But the skiddish Sunrise still needs someone and you turn you mind to her while the other two dive deeper to go about the secret ritual of deciding mates.
