Brad Smith received a degree in business administration and economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and worked for nineteen years in the coal mining industry in western Pennsylvania before becoming a consultant. In 1999 he started his own consulting business before tiring of the constant travel in 2003. Now more grounded and with a normal schedule, he has finally been able to concentrate on the 4th Precinct Detective Novels.
Supreme Judgment and Ice on the Track are action/thrillers that find the detectives of teh 4th precinct drawn into international and domestic conspiracies. Mixing the styles of his favorite authors, Ed McBain, Robert B. Parker, and John Grisham, his writing style reflects different characteristics of all three of these fine writers.
The ideas for Supreme Judgment were developed in 1998 when the outline and character sketches were completed. However, Brad’s heavy travel schedule prevented him from taking the time to actually write. The events of the Presidential election of 2000 inspired him to “get on with it” and turn his ideas and characters into a living, breathing, novel. He began writing in 2001, stopped for a short time while his business “took off” again, and then returned to the novel in the fall of 2003. Supreme Judgement hit the book shelves and internet stores in 2004 and was followed by Ice on the Track in 2006. Additional 4th Precinct novels are on the story board now.
The forward for Ice on the Track is written by Peggy Forman, founder of Personalized Greyhounds, a group dedicated to finding homes for retired racing greyhounds. These wonderful dogs are a delight to be 'owned by'. Brad has dedicated his second book to his loyal greyhound friend and companion for six years.
Now working at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Brad has settled down to enjoy his family, cats, reading, and writinng. His third novel, tentatively titled The Jersey Shuffle, is being outlined and will involve many of the same characters from the prior novels as Detective Chuck Stevenson's past haunts him in Miami.
