 | Event Preview: $25.000 Stockholm The
first Swedish womens event of 2009 starts next week in SALK, the main
draw wild cards have been given to Sandra Roma, Ellen Allgurin,
Kristina Andlovic and Finland's Emma Laine. Sandra Roma last year
returned from a back problem to record the best year of her career,
winning junior Grade 1 titles in singles, and taking the US Open girls
doubles taking her junior ranking into the worlds top 15. 14 year old
Ellen Allgurin also had the best year of her young career in 2008,
taking 3 junior singles titles and reaching 2 other junior finals,
taking her ranking into the world top 200. Kristina Andlovic is the
final Swedish wildcard, the 21 year old won her first senior career
title at the Falkenberg $10.000 as well as making two other separate
quarter finals. Some of the Swedish players in qualifying are Anna
Brazhnikova, Paulina Milosavljevic, Diana Eriksson and Julia
Klackenberg.
|  | Fed Cup Preview 2009 This year Estonia are hosting the Europe/Africa Group 1 Zonal tie.
Sweden's team consists of Sofia Arvidsson, Johanna Larsson, Sandra Roma
and Ellen Allgurin. Sofia and Johanna both participated for Sweden in
2008 however Sandra Roma and Ellen Allgurin are making there debut in
the Fed Cup Team. Sofia Arvidsson was unbeaten in Singles in Fed Cup
2008 and has played 31 ties. Johanna Larsson proved invaluble in last
years challenge for promotion, staying unbeaten in Singles and Doubles
until the play-off stage. 2008 saw Sandra Roma 2008 return from a 9
month injury lay off, clinching a top 20 junior ranking and the US Open
Girls doubles title. 14 year old Ellen Allgurin is one of the most
promosing talents in Swedish tennis, already this year she has made 2
ITF junior finals.
|  | Event Preview $100.000 Odense Six
Swedish players will be playing the high level ITF event in Odense next
week. Sofia Arvidsson will be seeded third behind Home favourite
Caroline Wozniacki and Romanian Monica Niculescu. Johanna Larsson is
currently 2nd on the qualifying list, however it is possible she may
still be in the main draw. Also in qualifying by their own ranking are
Hanna Nooni and Aleksandra Srndovic, neither player will be seeded. The
two Swedish wildcards in qualifying are some of Swedens best juniors of
2008, Ellen Allgurin and Sandra Roma. Ellen is just 14 and has already
won 3 ITF under 18 titles, and at the $10.000 Stockholm took a set off
top seeded Pauline Wong. Sandra Roma this year won the US Open girls
doubles title and also won a grade 1 singles title. |

Larsson wins back-to-back doubles titles This
week has seen some fine performances from several Swedish players,
including to title winning performances in doubles. Last week Larsson
won her biggest ever doubles title with Anna Smith at a $75.000 event
in Shrewsbury, this week she partnered Finland's Emma Laine and was
again a doubles champion. In the quarter finals they
cruised to a 6-1 6-0 win before a much tougher 1-6 6-3 10-7 win over
British third seeds Smith and Hawkins. In the final they were straight
sets winners, defeating Mayr and Pelletier 6-4 6-2. At the ITF Oslo
Indoor Junior event there were two very good performances from
Gabriella Boboc and Mathilda Hamlin, Gabriella lost out in the singles
final and Mathilda won the doubles event with Caroline Rohde-Moe.

More Swede's Starting to Earn WTA Rankings In
2008 one new Swedish player has entered the singles rankings, and 5
have earn a doubles ranking for the first time. 16 year old Anna
Brazhnikova has impressively achieved a ranking of 1014 in singles and
724 in doubles. Both Caroline Magnusson (after her 1st round singles
win in Budapest) and Annie Goransson are just one point scoring
tournament away from a singles ranking. However its been in doubles in
which the younger Swedish players
have been performing on the Womens ITF Circut. 5 players (including
Brazhnikova) have achieved a ranking, Annie Goransson (752), Madeliene Saari-Bystrom (872), Caroline Magnusson (919) and Karolina Domanski (997).

Sandra Roma win US Open Junior Doubles title Sandra
Roma won the US Open Junior girls doubles title on Friday, partnering
Thailand's Noppawan Lerchewakarn. Sandra lost in the singles second
round to the 6th seed Elena Bogdan but reached progressed through the
round comfortably in the doubles tournament. On Friday Sandra and her
partner won 10-8 in the champions tie breaker in the final set of their
semi final, they went on to win the final easily 6-0 6-2 against a
American partnership. This was Sandra's last junior event in her
career, she now will start to try and establish herself on the ITF
Womens circut and then the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

Swedish Star Of The Summer: Ellen Allgurin This
summer Ellen Allgurin has hit a high in her career, the 14 year old
from Varnamo has won the Nordea Junior Masters, 14 Swedish junior
singles masters, 15 year age catagory Kalle Anka Cup and this week took
her 2nd career title on the U18 ITF Junior tennis tour. The whole of
2008 the youngster has looked strong and event qualified for a womens
ITF event beating players much older than herself. Ellen was dominant
throughout this weeks's event in Kramfors and did not drop a single set
en-route to the win. The right-hander now steps up a catagory on the
ITF Junior Circut to play a grade 4 event in Cyprus before playing ITF Junior circut events in Denmark and Norway.
