For education on rat care and philosorats

First off, DON"T PURCHASE RATS FROM PETSHOPS! If you do, you will only be aiding an already rotten apple to get worse. Rats are most of the time kept on the wrong bedding, fed the wrong food, not separated by sex and therefore often sold pregnant.  If you do happen upon a petstore selling rats please let us know as we are doing what we can to stop the live animal trade.

Try to encourage owls in your neighbourhood to help control the wild rat population (see our eco page). Don't use blue blocks/rat poisens and glue traps. These are cruel and nothing, not even a lowley wild rat should be subjected to this kind of death. The rat in the picture below is my half wild child called Jack. He is one of the few wild/domestic children that was tameble (well mostly, lol) and I often look at him and want to die a thousand deaths thinking of his cousins in the wild being killed as cruely as we, the alpha race, do.

Please do not remove wild rats from...........THE WILD (this should give you a big hint). Jack isn't your average rat as he is a wild/domestic mix. 99.999% of wild rats will always remain wild and difficult to handle. They hate being confined and don't do well as pets. Jack is a difficult rat in that despite his partial domestication, he destroys everything, is very clingy, and doesn't socialise particually well most of the time. He however will never be able to live "wild"

If you find a nest leave the babies alone. Mom will return. If you disturb a nest, put the babies back. Rats do not usually kill babies that smell of human

As an information group who promote the care of rats, we feel that there is much more to our moral obligation then just our rats, what about all the other rats that are suffering becuase of ignorance.  It is our job to take care to whatever extent we can, of the animals that we are here to protect.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter; the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love & hope, fear & dread, sadness & betrayal & I was angry!!!" God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment & then spoke softly, "I have done something. "I created you."
