Firstly, I'd like to welcome you all to this site which was generously donated by Freewebs, thanks guys. The content of this website is mostly fact straight from bonafide sociologists, and a small part of the content is my interpretation of sociological theories as I see them in modern society. I started studying sociology last year and it fascinated me from the very beginning - it really opens your mind so you are able to look at all institutions of socialisation and all cultural groups and not make biased judgements based on representations that we see or hear on a daily basis (we can thank the sun for that - no slander implied Mr Murdoch ;o)
Not only is sociology awesome - but so is my tutor, who shall remain nameless for fear of me sounding like a brown nose :o)
The aim of sociology is to encourage people to look at individuals, groups and institutions in a way that is value free, to see them as they are and not as we may prefer them to be. Sociology examines society from all possible viewpoints and seeks to understand and account for the varied forms of human societies and their impact on individual lives.
Sociology is the study into the interaction between individual members of society, as well as behaviour in the social groups and institutions that affect them in life. We all develop ideas and beliefs about people and about how different institutions function - sometimes due to negative media representation of certain groups we create emotional preferential biases that cause us to have a narrow minded point of view without knowing everything that is needed to know before we judge.
