The best part is it’s FREE! Whether it’s to browse around and read the featured authors or even submit a story yourself, we welcome and embrace you into our dark realm of true horror. This mortuary was built by my own grimy appendages from sordid ceremonial grounds and drenched in the blood of disdain and rejection. My ghoulish hands have woven together this underworld to feature some great works from horror authors who haven’t had their imaginative scrolls of horror presented in this inner sanctum from the crypt and into the daylight. We dare to publish what other mags don't, but only in the best of taste! Now come and see why we are the new underground of true horror. You will soon be coming back for more.

                         Attention Horror Readers:

Yes, you heard right, SNM Magazine is FREE to the public! We are here to bring you the best new voices in horror with a new issue every month. Are you ready for the next generation of Stephen King? By previewing the author's featured stories for free, you can decide which authors you like best. All we ask is that you patron the ones you like by buying their novel with the link to their website on where to buy their book. Sign our reader's guestbook and subscribe below to get our free updated monthly newsletters. These guys work hard to entertain your brain and appreciate your verbal support and interest!

                         Attention Horror Writers:

Do you have an original short story you want to see published? All first and second time published and self-published writers welcome. If we publish it we will  showcase your story and promote your book or website right underneath your featured work in the hallowed halls of our magazine. If available, we will also post your featured author bio and picture on the site for the month your story is published. We have bi-monthly paying contests and we have published a horror anthology with paying royalties to the contributors featured therein. Submit us your best unpublished fiction! You can promote your book directly through your own channels of distribution and still get your name out to the masses. We charge no fees for any of our services. We are the new Bootcamp of Horror! We can also help get you into HWA with our paying contests. Our philosophy is this: since no one gets famous overnight it's imperative for new writers to get exposure and acquire a good fan base. So it's all about having your stories read, initially. We have become a launching ground for authors, who get feedback from our editors to learn and grow before submitting to pro paying markets. Moreover, we are a theme based magazine, which means by hosting a challenging theme, we force writers to write fresh, new stories instead of just submitting older material or recycled rejects. So dream dark, be unique and write brilliant! Anyone published by SNM can make it in the pro paying markets. We're here to trigger that dark inspiration.

We are averaging over 2,000 unique visits to the website each month and word of mouth helps. Make us become the number one source of FREE horror by telling your friends about us.                         November Newsletter

Greetings SNM Readers,

To commemorate the 200th birthday of writer Edgar Allan Poe, (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) SNM Horror Mag pays homage by dedicating the November theme issue in honor of Edgar Allan Poe & H.P. Lovecraft. Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, editor and literary critique, considered as part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of detective fiction/science fiction stories. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career. His adversary and naysayer was Rufus Griswold, who depicted Poe as a depraved, drunk, drug-addled madman and included Poe's letters as evidence. Many claims were either outright lies or distorted half-truths. Griswold's book was later denounced by those who knew Poe well. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Poe's publishing career began very humbly with an anonymous collection of poems. Only after his death was Poe a legend.

H.P. Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien -- like mankind. Those who genuinely use reason (like his protagonists) gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a huge cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fiction featuring an eerie panthenon of non-human nullifying entities, including the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magickal rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of Romanticism and Christian Humanism. His protagonists usually had the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of alternate realities. He was born Howard Phillips Lovecraft on August 20, 1890.

Although H.P. Lovecraft's readership was quite limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the centuries and he is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th century, along with Edgar Allan Poe, who has exerted "an incalculable influence succeeding generations of newer writers of horror fiction." Stephen King has labeled Lovecraft "the twentieth century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale." Therefore this issue of SNM Horror Mag is dedicated to both of these horror pioneers. Here in this issue you will find the darkest, most eloquent writers of the highest caliber and darkest minds.

Just in time for Halloween...

We have gathered together the top 10 online magazines that publish horror, sci-fi, and dark fantasy stories that you can read for free. The only criteria is that the magazines have fiction that can be read free of charge and that it contains an element of speculative fiction. Although Weird Tales does charge a fee for their print issues, they do offer free fiction, so...they made the list. Each of these online magazines differs in their content and quality but they are arguably some of the best available on the web; they are all devoted to the genre and serious about what they do. This is the best list for 2009. So if you're looking for some good Halloween reading with no strings attached...click the links below.
