| Smoky's Harbor Rabbitry |

History of the Rabbitry I bet you are wondering how I got the name, Smoky's Harbor Rabbitry for my rabbitry. Here's how it all started. When I was in the 8th grade, I got a card from my dad that said I could have two dwarf rabbits or any breed of rabbit I wanted just as long as they were the same sex. The next day I went to the Humane Society and got a Netherland Dwarf and Dwarf Hotot. The Netherland Dwarf's name was Thumper and the Dwarf Hotot's name was Checkers. Thumper was a Chestnut Netherland Dwarf. Checkers disappeared one day and Thumper was becoming depressed so I got Thumper a friend, a chocolate mini-rex doe. Her name was Velvet and she was the meanest thing I ever had. She bit me every chance she got, her bites would leave huge welts. One day, both Thumper and Velvet escaped - Velvet got eaten by an animal, my mom heard her in the middle of the night. Thumper got hit by a car. A month later, I got a black mini-lop named Lulu but I couldn't keep up with her needs so she had to go back to her breeder. My parents wouldn't let me have any rabbits for awhile even though I really wanted another rabbit. So at the beginning of my sophomore year, I walked about 3 miles to the pet store and bought a black mixed breed rabbit then walked back with the rabbit in my arms. I hid the rabbit in my backyard for two weeks until my mom accidently found the rabbit. I kept the rabbit for a little while after that but later gave it to my friend's grandma. Later on, near the end of my sophomore year, I had a science project to do. It was a huge science project and I thought of the perfect excuse. I needed a rabbit for my science project so I went to the Humane Society and adopted a beautiful chinchilla rabbit which I later identified to be a giant chinchilla. I named her Smoky. She was my favorite rabbit I ever had, she had the free run of my room and never had an accident once. She would sleep under my bed and no one could ever coax her out except for me. I would call her and she would come crawling out of the bed and lick my nose. I think that was her favorite thing to do, to lick my face. I loved her with all of my heart and she died mysteriously at four months old. To this day, I still don't know what was the cause of her death. Since she was my favorite rabbit and still is, I decided to dedicate this rabbitry to her. |
