Smoky's Harbor Rabbitry

Our Chickens

*pictures coming soon*

We have many hens and one cochin rooster. I first started out with the cochin rooster because I wanted to control my spider problem in the rabbitry. There were so many hobo spiders around, I was worried about one of my rabbits getting bitten and heard that chickens were very good at eating spiders... so I got a rooster. I decided to get him a few hens. I got three hens, one buff orphinigton, one barred rock, and one bantam. All lived together for awhile then my neighbor's dog came over and attacked my barred rock and bantam. The barred rock was killed and my bantam's injuries were too severe so she had to be put down. Since that incident, I have added so many hens. We have a few buff orphinigtons, a few barred rock, three silkie hens, one rhode island red, two black hens, one bantam, and one white hen, we think it is an Araucana. These hens find the weirdest places to lay their eggs. Do they lay their eggs in their coops? Nope! They lay eggs behind the rabbit cage stackers, making it very hard to get to the eggs. I've also found a couple eggs on the top of Prince's cage. It's like the Easter egg hunt everyday for me. The eggs I get from my chickens taste way better than the ones from grocery stores. There's nothing that can beat fresh eggs!
