4-H The 4-H motto is "To make the best, better." 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. The pledge is as following:My heart to greater loyalty, My hands to larger service, And my health to better living, For my club, my community, my country, and my world" 4-H is a community club for 3rd grade through 12th grade (or until you are 19 years old). You can join 4-H with many things, it doesn't have to be related to animals. You can join a sewing project, a science project, or cooking project. If you want to join 4-H with an animal, you can use the following animals to join 4-H: Goats, pigs, sheep, cow/cattle, horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, cavies (guinea pigs), and newly introduced pocket pets. Pocket pets are mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, etc. Now adding box turtles. Pocket pets is a new project for 4-H, it is when rodents such as hamsters, rats, mice, etc. can be judged normally like dogs, cats, rabbits, and cavies. To get a better idea of what Pocket Pets is all about, I suggest you visit my 4-H club's website. Click here to go to my club's website. The website provides links to Rat, Gerbil, Mouse, Hamster, and Ferret show standards. One can learn a lot of valuable experiences from 4-H, I was only able to join for two years because I started my junior year in high school. However my first year in 4-H, I learned a lot of valuable experiences. I learned way more about rabbits than I thought I could. I also made new friends (more than I thought I would). I met new friends, not from my club but from many other clubs. 4-Hers were willing to help each other, give each other tips on fitting and showing, how to remove stains, etc. These 4-Hers I encountered didn't think of only themselves; they were thinking of others and this is a very valuable life lesson. |
