Hello friends,
I belong to Trivandrum, a city in the state of Kerala (erstwhile Travancore Princely State) which lies in the extreme south of the Indian sub-continent. I collect world coins by type (based on the Krause Catalogue). I am only interested in exchange of coins. Though I collect coins by type, I can give you coins of India by year also, on request.
The history of India runs back to thousands of years. So, obviously there are a lot of coins (most of which are yet to be studied and a lot of coins are yet to be discovered).
India got independance in 1947 and about 350 types of coins are issued by the Reserve Bank of India until now. The denomination of the coins runs from 1 Paisa to 100 Rupees. The 1 Paisa, 2 Paise and 3 Paise coins are no longer legal tender now. Though the 5 Paise, 10 Paise and 25 Paise are legal tender at present, hardly anyone uses it.
There were several interesting coins issued previously in India by the colonial forces and by the native states. I'll try to describe some of them in the near future when I develop this site.
Regarding the swap, I'd always send coins by Registered Mail. I'd like to trade atleast 15 coins at a t ime. If you want a particular coin from India, let me know it. I'll try to buy it for you and would like some coins from you in return. Please email me: smithatitus@yahoo.co.in . I'll almost always reply within 24 hours.
Feel free to browse through the pages.
best regards, Smitha
