What To Look For: The Guinea Pig will scratch his fur alot. He may jump about looking very irratated. You may be able to pick out 'Flea Dirt' - which is actually the feces of the flea. You may even see the fleas crawling through the fur. The Guinea Pig may be suffering from Hair loss and scabs, in worse cases, if the fleas are in hight numbers- Anemia | What To Look For: The Guinea Pig will scratch alot.
| What To Look For: These Mites cannot be seen with the nacked eye, but you can tell when a Guinea Pig has them. The Guinea Pig will Scratch and bite at its fur. This causes fur loss with lots of scabs and open wounds. Mange CAN KILL. | ||
How It Happened: Guinea Pigs can get the common Cat flea, any aniamls that brings them into the House then the Guinea Pig could catch them. The Guinea Pig could then become infestated with them, and really suffer. | How It Happened: Mites may allways be present on a Guinea Pig, but if the Guinea Pig is weak, unhealthy or Pregnant, then they could grow in numbers, sometimes this can result in death. | How It Happened: Can be passed on by a Fox, as Foxes carry Mange too. Also the Hay that you may buy may have these Mites in it, so make sure you use proper quality Hay. | ||
Treatment: Flea Comb: A Flea Comb can also be used to get rid of the Fleas, you may be able to pick them out in the comb. Guinea Pigs may also enjoy the relief of it! Flea Combs will only move the fleas, they wont completly get rid of them.

| Treatment: As Mites cannot be treated with a Shampoo and a Bath, the Guinea Pig will need a visit to the Vets. It is alot easier and less painful than testing.

| Treatment: When you first see the signs developing, the Guinea Pig will have to see a Vet streight the way, where the Guinea Pig may be given a ivermectin by injection, a good vet will know what to do.

A Vet could easily get rid of them, but there are a few products that you could buy for Guinea Pigs, that could get rid of them.
