When I ran, I didn't feel like a runaway. When I escaped, I didn't feel like I got away. There's more to living than only surviving. And maybe i'm not there, but i'm still trying.

Her Potential

The abilities of a Vila vary from one member of the species to another, although there are some characteristics shared among all. Unerringly attractive, the vila possesses a capacity to stun a watcher with eye contact, a momentary reel of the senses. While myth is inexplicit about the source of this effect (some say it is simply the vila's inhuman appearance, other sources claim that it is the touch of her mind and attentions, a staggering focus and fire), the result is usually a momentary sense of disorientation, like looking in the eyes of a serpent.

Vila of all types are likewise proficient in the manipulations of their elements, usually either storms or other forms of water and electricity. Their ire, if unchecked, tends to gather thunderclouds overhead, their anger occasionally escaping in a crackle of distant (or not so distant) lightning. In Ceylon's case, she is closely tied to the tempest, and the rains, wind, and electricity it embodies.

Vila are extremely empathic creatures, obscurely sensitive to the slightest shifts of mood and body language. Due to Ceylon's exhorbitant study of human beings and her fascination in their mannerisms, she possesses an exceptionally developed sense of social sensitivity and awareness, one which others frequently misinterpret as a form of telepathy.

Finally, Vila are capable of various types of transformation, usually into the form of either a swan, a wolf, or a horse. Due to the lengthy time spent returning to the storm over the past century, Ceylon is encapsulated in an especially predatory state, and often prefers the wolf to either of the gentler animals. Following from this, Vila are attributed with the ability to communicate with most animals, and due to their ties with nature are often considered extremely protective of the natural state.
