Sleekats Cattery

The home of the Russian Hairless cats known as the Don Sphynx (Donskoy) & the Peterbald

CAT CARE

These are not maintence free animals. They do require care. The care consists of clipping  the nails and pulling back the foreskin which covers the toes and cleaning this area,  cleaning the wax (yeast) in the ears and also clean the small side flap located on the outside of the ear, which also needs to be cleaned with a q-tip to remove the dirt build up, washing the body, eye care (because of a lack of eye lashes, dirt and debris can get into eyes and build up around the eye lids), dental care and any other health issues that may arise. These animals should not be left alone for long periods of time. These animals are to be treated as if they were children.

These animals must be kept WARM (ideal temperatures between 71 of 85 degrees) away from fans, air conditioning, cold windows and draughts. For your small kitten, simply use a large sock, not to tight, with the toe cut out and two slits cut for the front legs (hugs the body, which I prefer) and/or with a Pet Sweater over the sock. Please check under arm to make sure kitties skin is not being chapped.

The Don Sphynx are inclined to become dirty, therefore need regular cleaning. Special care to clean eyes, ears and tail. Black heads will form on tail (STUD TAIL), even run up the back and around mouth.

PLEASE REFER TO OUR "HAIRLESS CAT PRODUCT" PAGE FOR THE NAMES OF THE PRODUCTS NEEDED TO CARE FOR THE HAIRLESS CAT.

This is only what I use. You may choose whatever food you and your veterinarian prefer.

Cats chew only a small portion of the food they eat because their teeth are made for tearing meat rather than grinding food. An all canned food diet will cause tartar buildup on the teeth.

DRY FOOD : Maxximum Nutrition Kitten Formula

Feeding for Kittens, Pregnant females during gestation and lactation and Adult maintenance. This CHICKEN and RICE formula contains Omega 6 & Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Taurine. It is FREE of animal by-products, artifical colors, flavors and preservatives.

I leave dry food out for cats "free choice" all the time.

I also feed my cats boiled chicken breast daily adding the shredded chicken and water from boiling the chicken to the dry food in the morning for breakfast. (please allow the chicken water to be refrigerated for a few hours to remove the chicken fat from the top of the water).

*Maxximum Nutrition  food can be purchased at WalMart.
