BUTCHER - 'Based on the true story of Ed Gein'
THE FILM
Although some events may be slightly altered to match the feel I was going for, the things you are seeing in the main actually happened. This film is designed to show a more human, remorseful side to Gein. but at the same time shock you with acts that make him completely inhuman. I wanted to show a side of guilt and remorse, Gein feeling sorry for himself, and what he had done. A tormented man, tortured by his crimes as they haunt him. This is the side I wanted to show. A side that may not have ever existed. Who knows for sure? Only Gein, and he is not alive to tell us. From his confessions and quotes, it seems unlikely he thought what he was doing was wrong. I play Gein as that side we all imagine must have been there at some point.
BEHIND THE FILM
The movie was completed in 3 days. One for prep and research, one for filming and one for post/scoring. I was proud of the music as it seemed to fit. The latex I had on my face for Gein took about an hour to apply. The props and parts where bits and bobs I had lying around, all except the face that is hung on the hook. that was made from latex specially for the film. The photo's are all genuine crime scene and documented photo's from the Gein case. Most of the sound that came from the camera, Like me breathing, falling about ect, had to be ADR'd because of the constant loud sounds of fireworks, as the main chunk of filming was shot near Guy Fawkes night.
