Images from Eternity

CCD Astroimaging of the Universe
by Bob Birket

All my life I've wondered about what is beyond the blue skies of Earth. Since my earliest days my mind gravitated to the depths and beauty of the night sky. My interest in astronomy grew from the U.S Space program and the acheivement of John F Kennedy's dream of landing a man on the Moon. When Carl Sagan's Cosmos aired in the fall of 1980, the universe took on a new light and understanding. After spending a night imaging with my friend Adam Block at Kitt Peak National Observatory, in 1998 I knew that imaging the night sky would be an important part of my enjoyment of astronomy. This website is dedicated to the expensive, addictive and vey full-filling adventure of CCD astro-imaging. These images were all taken from a small backyard observatory located in the very light polluted skies of Mesa Arizona. Advances in technology has given amateur astronomers the tools required to image the night sky in unprecedented detail.
