Max's Story

I adopted Max in December of 2001.  He was about 6 months old when he showed up at my front door on a brisk November morning.  I had heard a cat calling and opened the door.  Max ran under my legs and into the living room.  I immediately wanted to keep him, but I wasn't sure if he had an owner.  I put him back outside and stayed out there for an hour petting him.  Once it became too cold for me, I went back inside but I still felt badly for him.

Max stayed around for a couple of days but then he disappeared for a couple of weeks.  I thought that I wouldn't see him again but then one morning I woke up to him sitting at the back door, mewing to come in.  I ran out and pet him for an hour.  This time he stayed in the yard for several days.

Soon I began feeding him and giving him water.  It was nice every morning waking up to Max sitting at the door waiting for me to go out and pet him.  I had never been happier.

As the weeks passed, I never saw a lost sign about a cat.  It made me happy knowing that he wouldn't be taken away from me for I had come to really love this kitten.  I was completely enamored with his kitty-antics.

Finally, on December 24, 2001, it was decided that I would keep him.  I named him Max and brought him indoors.  I had hated thinking of him being outside during the cold winter months, although he didn't seem to mind.

Once spring came around, I started receiving "gifts", i.e.  left over body parts from the catch of the day.  Max loves to play with his food.  He rolls it around, tosses it into the air and catches it with his paws before it landed.  It was fun watching him play but I felt badly for the mice because they're so cute.

When Max was three, we moved in with some friends while we waited for our new house to be completed.  Max did well during both moves.  Most of the time he was pretty calm.  He became a little nervous when we moved into our new home, but once he had checked out every nook and cranny he settled down.

Now that Max is older, he doesn't go hunting as often.  Even though we live right next to a field, he doesn't like to go in it, most likely because there are coyotes living in there.  He still likes to roll in the dirt and he becomes really frisky during the evening.

The things he hates the most are going to the vet, taking a bath and other cats.  The things he likes to eat are mice, rats, strawberries, salted cashews, watermelon, chicken, coconut, turkey, ham, tuna and rabbit.  For some reason he likes to be in cars that are dormant, however if the car is moving, he absolutely detests it.

I guess that's it about Max.  He is one interesting cat.  He is very social with people and is the most patient cat I've ever seen.

I hope you enoyed this story.  I believe stray cats make the best pets.  I hope that if a friendly, stray cat comes your way, you will consider adopting it.
