Awarding

Wait.. so how does the "Round 1", "Round 2" system go?
First of all, let me state this. The Round system is NOT like boxing. Just like in the Oscars, where they hand out awards annually, we hand out our awards like that. Only we hand them out semi-annually (Summer and Winter). A set of winners will be announced for Round 1. Then, a whole new batch will be nominated for Round 2. A set of winners for Round 2 will be announced. Then, a whole new batch will be nominated for Round 3. And so on.

How often do you plan to hold the awardings?
We planned to hold these every summer vacation and winter break. We had originally started the site during winter break and we prefer to have some down time in between so that our lives aren't that hectic. Isn't it always during summer and winter time when you have nothing better to do? Heh. Spring is spent studying for end-of-the-year exams, finalizing other things, and winter is spent lazing around the house drinking hot chocolate.

Why was the Best Horror category (which was in Round 1) retired?
We decided to retire it because of the lack of nominations for it. For both subcategories, there was only one author who had stories in it. That author was Bleeding Air/Hate to Hope (yes, they're the same person). Since the same story can't be nominated in the same category twice in a row, there were really no stories left for this category. We then replaced this category with "Best Quizilla Story" (sometimes known as Best Quizilla Romance).

Well, that's great. Then why was the Best Quizilla category retired for Round 3?
Linda (who used to be a co-owner here) and I felt that Quizilla stories in general just didn't match up to the quality of FictionPress stories, so instead of having to reject so many nominations from Quizilla, we simply barred all stories from that site. However, if you have a story that you think deserves to awarded here, please e-mail us personally and we'll consider your nomination.

Huh? Why does it say that the next round is coming during the summer? It's winter here!
The site is operated by Jenina, who lives in the Northern Hemisphere. As she doesn't really care much for being politically correct in all aspects of life, she'll stick to Summer. =] Seriously, though. I have a site tracker on the front page (you probably see it as a little green button that says "Site Meter") that tracks the number of hits the site receives and where the computer accessing the site is. This allows me to see where most of my audience lives. I have found that most of my audience lives either in the United States, Canada, or the UK, so I gear the site to fit their schedule. I apologize to the Australians, South Americans, and Southeast Asians who live in the Southern Hemisphere (and anyone else who lives in the Southern Hemisphere, I'm just generalizing..) in advance for this inconvenience.

Nominating & Voting

Do the judges read all the stories before they appear on the nomination list, or did my nomination not go through?
The judges read all the nominations before they appear on the nomination list. That's what they're for. =] If you want to see if your nomination went through, just contact the specific judge in charge of that category. There should be a list of that under the link "Categories".

I tried nominating a story but then it said something about your quota being exceeded. What does this mean?
Well, since I am merely a poor student, I cannot afford using premium services. Therefore, I have to use mycontactform.com, which only allows an account to have 20 nomination forms to be submitted per month. I use a different form for each judge so I need multiple accounts. When the judge has received 20 nomination forms, that message will appear and that signifies that I have to use a different account for the judge. Making sense? Sometimes, I don't realize this right away because I never use the nomination forms for my purposes and I don't always check the accounts currently in use, which is why I depend on everybody to let me know if it says something about the quota.

Is there a limit as to how many stories I can nominate?
Absolutely not! Nominate as much as you wish. :)

What URL is it asking for in the "URL" box?
It's asking for the URL of the story, unless otherwise noted on that page. For example, if you were to nominate a story for "Most Humorous", you give the URL to the story. But if you're nominating a story for "Best Kiss", you give the URL for the specific chapter where the kiss in question is located.

How many times do you get to vote?
This is mentioned in the Voting Rules. You can only vote four times from the same IP Address during our voting period (which usually lasts four weeks), meaning you can only vote once a week.

Site

Who is actually writing all the stuff on the site?
That's me! I'm Jenina, the owner of the site. Since I'm just a poor student with an appreciation for romances, I have to write out everything on the site, including the coding. However, Nic, my wonderful wonderful graphics specialist, has taken to coding her layouts herself and just giving it to me to adapt it for the site. So if you ever see anything that's in first person, that would be me referring to me. :)

How do you become a judge?
Sometimes, I send out notices asking for help with the site. An application form will usually accompany that notice. The judges in SKoW are judged themselves. They had to send in thorough application forms and the ones I chose showed me that I could trust them with the nominations. If you wish to become a judge, just wait. As the site grows, I will always need more staff to help maintain it. Some judges come and go, and I may need replacements.

Challenges

Is there a deadline to submit a challenge?
Technically, there is no deadline. These challenges are meant to inspire you. However, if you want your challenge response to be considered for the "Best Challenge Response" category for Round Four (or any future rounds containing that category), it will have to be complete by the time that it is nominated. So you are free to submit your completed story to me until the nomination period is over. You can even submit it before the Round begins!

Can we only do the latest challenge posted?
You can do any of the challenges. I just numbered them for my own benefit. And yours.

Is there a minimum/maximum length requirement?
If there aren't any specifications in the challenge about length, then no. The story can be as long as you wish, as long as it fulfills the requirements.

How many stories can I submit for the "Best Challenge Response" category?
You can submit as many stories for the "Best Challenge Response" category as you want. As long as they all fit their respective challenge requirements, then they will all be considered.

How do you submit a story?
You can submit it by sending me a link to the story on FictionPress (I'll personally review it and bookmark it for consideration in whichever round is coming up -- in this case: Round Four) or by sending me the entire story via attachment. The e-mail is skowawards@gmail.com, in case you didn't know. You can also post the link on the Yahoo! Group, which several people have taken advantage of already.

How will the winners be judged?
I've taken it upon myself (me, meaning Jenina) to judge these personally. I'll be going through and reading the challenge responses myself. The winners will be announced along with the other winners in the other categories. The winner and the runner-up will be chosen by myself, and the last award for this category, you will be able to vote for. Best Challenge Response (Voted).
