Singing now I'm free

Who Said Slavery Died?

Bent double over machines and shirts

Sewing from dawn to dusk

Hard work

Little pay

All in the name of profit

Stuffy factories in scorching heat

With little time for breaks

Hard work

Little pay

To produce clothes for the West

We often admire clothes

But do we appreciate the

Hard work

Little pay

People have for latest trends

We say slavery has ended

But we wear the clothes

That prove its existence

At What Price?

The world is getting smaller

But at what price?

Big companies moving in everywhere

Giving people a “chance to work”

Everyday. For peanuts.

It’s great to be able to send a message

To California in a heartbeat

But as the world gets smaller

More and more are exploited

By those with sights on the bottom line.

So next time someone utters

“We’re living in a global village”

Think how it is

That we can be so close

And yet so far

We give aid, but debt remains

We have wealth, but famine rages

We preach fair trade but exploit the nations

The world is getting smaller

But the problems only grow.
