WWZ photo from Amanda | Welcome to New Guinea Singing Dog International New Guinea Singing Dogs International (NGSDI) was formed by a group of NGSD owners and fanciers who are working to save the breed. With the NGSD having such a high instinctual prey drive, it is vital that anyone who takes on the task of bringing a Singer into their life be armed with as much good information as possible. One of our many goals here at NGSDI is to educate any current or potential owner as to the rewards as well as the pitfalls of Singer ownership. The NGSD is believed to be one of the most primitive canines on earth and a direct link to the wolf. They are not for the average dog fancier. They are extreme escape artists and are by nature a hunter. This can make ownership of a Singer a daunting task. Those folks who have taken on the challenge of living with a Singer have developed a unique and rewarding bond with their animal. Many captive Singers currently live with their owners inside the family home. In the wild (New Guinea's Highlands) Singers are secretive and shy away from human contact and for that reason many of us believe pure specimens still do exist in remote areas of New Guinea. Their instinctual shyness form human contact has allowed them to elude many efforts made to capture new bloodlines. One of NGSDI's several goals is to foster Singer research in New Guinea and either bring new blood from New Guinea that would strengthen existing North American bloodlines and/or to be instrumental in helping to establish a NGSD preserve in New Guinea so Singing Dogs may be reintroduced into their wild habitat.
