The Pony Club is an international voluntary youth organisation for youngsters interested in horses and riding.  It was founded in England in 1929 and is now represented in more than 30 countries.

The Club was first founded in early days of the 1960’s as the Singapore branch of the UK Pony Club.  The Singapore Branch of the Pony Club was registered in the Singapore Registry of Societies roster in 1996 to obtain its current name.  Its objective is to encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy the sport connected with horses. At the same time, it educates members to look after and to take proper care of their animals.

Its membership is open to anyone over the age of 7 and under the age of 21.  Adult membership (of non-riding members) is for interested parents and committee volunteers.

Riding Programmes

The following riding programmes will be offered:

ü    Introduction: stable management and lunging lessons (eight lessons).  This programme is compulsory for all beginners.

ü    Beginner: for students who passed the introduction lessons to improve on their riding skills.  It will be offered in blocks of eight lessons.  Students proceeding to the next level will require to pass a proficiency test.

ü    Beyond beginner: offered in blocks of eight lessons.  This programme is to be expanded and streamlined to be consistent with Pony Clubs around the world.

Competitions, grading exercises and gymkhanas will be organised regularly.  Efficiency certificate are awarded by the Club as an encouragement to members for their interest in their work and to certify their skill level.  Currently, riding courses are conducted at the Singapore Polo Club and the Bukit Timah Saddle Club during weekdays and weekends.

Other fixtures include lectures, talks and visits to places of interest.  Pony camps will be organised during the school vacation (normally in December) with the aim of providing members with an opportunity to receive concentrated instruction on riding and to take a total charge of a horse.
