NZ Letter Boxing

Challenges that will make you search

Challenge 3 and future enhancements

January 22, 2007. 22:50

Well, now that Big Day Out is over it's back down to business. Today's challenge was brought to you by Sarah Briarmoss, so if it's a little tough then you can thank her. I understand that there will be a lot of decoding required to answer this challenge.

To recognise that not all of you may be able to work these out, and therefore to keep you in the game, I will be creating a second scoreboard to reflect this challenge only. This scoreboard will be used for all diabolical (which this is) challenges.

Happy hunting with these challenges.

In other news:
  • This page will soon be moving - I have found a new host who will enable me to do a lot more with the pages and all for free. Can't beat the freebies - Keep an eye out for future enhancements!
  • We will be linking in with other New Zealand Letter Box sites so you can get out there and find out more.
  • All people that successfully complete a challenge will be sent an online stamp - this will be to keep track of what they have done and how they are going.
  • Am trying to get a chat board up and running somewhere to allow you to all trade hints with each other.

Untill next time, keep sending me those challenges and good luck with this one.

Challege 4 should be up by Wednesday.

Challenge 2 and further updates

January 15, 2007. 21:00

Congratulations to JofaJafa and Sarah_Briarmoss for completing challenge 1 first, after answering the questions 1-9 before anyone else, Sarah was pipped at the final post by Jafa who claimed the challenge points. Well done both.

Challenge 2 is now live, thanks to Robyn for submitting this challenge to me. Apologies for taking so long to get this up but the FreeWebs server was down for maintenance - we could access the site but I couldn't maintain it.

In other enhancements, there is now an FAQ section of this site. Coming up at the end of the week will be form based challenges - this will enable you to submit all your questions to me without having to use email... nifty.

I'm still working on the points system, I would like to be able to link the table on the points site to an Excel spreadsheet so that it dynamically updates to the site - would mean an end to the (human based) replication errors that I keep encountering. Since the questions for each challenge are all posted at the same time, questions will now only be worth 100 points, whether you get them first or not. The 200 challenge points are still up for grabs though. To compensate for this, some challenges may be worth more than others.

As I am about to head off to Big Day Out, Challenge 3 will not be out until next week. Challenge 3 was brought to you by Sarah and I've had a look at it - it's a tough one! Well done Sarah, this should keep them busy for a while.

If you have only just got here, don't worry - challenges will remain avaiable at all times.

Welcome

January 14, 2007. 20:35

Ok, here goes. While I don't currently have access to my web development and FTP tools, this is the best I can go with - for now. Please don't expect anything to flash at the moment for this is only round 1 and the whole concept of letter boxing is fairly new to me - and probably to most of you too. Also, with this editor I can knock a page up in 15 minutes and get the first challenge under way.

Let me make this quite clear from the start, there will be no prizes for this round and probably not for the next few, in fact I wouldn't expect prizes unless this thing really kicks off and I end up with some sponsorship for it.

Read the rules to find out what exactly you can/can't do.

Find out more about letterboxing here.

With out further delay, and with a massive drumroll expected of the launch of new things, let the first challenge begin.

Change of contact details

Ok, my email address has now changed. I don't want spam coming through my personal mail box so for all correspondance, please email me at sin_of_beer@hotmail.com

Anyone using the old one is welcome to do so for the remainder of challenge 1.

This is also my MSN ID, so feel free to add me there.
