The first hand-written English language Bible manuscripts were produced in the 1380's AD by John Wycliffe.

One of Wycliffe’s followers, John Hus, actively promoted Wycliffe’s ideas: that people should be permitted to read the Bible in their own language, and they should oppose the tyranny of the Roman church that threatened anyone possessing a non-Latin Bible with execution. Hus was burned at the stake in 1415, with Wycliffe’s manuscript Bibles used as kindling for the fire.

As we approach the last few centuries before Christ, the Jewish historical books known as the “Apocrypha” were completed, yet they were recorded in Greek rather than Hebrew. In John 1. 18, {aleph} B C L, almost unsupported except by a few versions, and, as to be expected, by many ecclesiastical writers, have the astonishing reading of 'God' for 'Son' after 'only begotten'.

Tisch. rejects it. But he has not been equally firm in John ix. 35; for he has introduced into his 8th edition 'Son of man,' instead of 'Son of God,' on the testimony of {aleph} B D. So have W. & H. and the Revisers in their margin.
The addition of 'yet' in John vii. 8, found in B and many others, is evidently an intentional change of ouk into oupw, from the desire to explain a text not understood.

Versions : These are translations of Scripture made directly from the original languages. For example from Hebrew or Greek into Syriac, Latin, German, English or French. A translation from Latin into English, or from English into Chinese, cannot strictly be called a 'version.' It is simply a translation of a translation: whereas a 'version' must be a translation from the original. Bear this important fact in mind.

The Old Latin Vulgate must not be confused with Jerome's Vulgate, which was produced over 220 years later in AD 380. Jerome's Vulgate (also written in Latin for the Roman Church) was rejected by the early Christians for almost a millennium. The Waldenses, Gauls, Celts, Albegenses and other groups throughout Europe used the Old Latin Vulgate and rejected Jerome's Vulgate. In his book An Understandable History of the Bible Rev. Samuel Gipp Th.D confirms this fact.

For example: "And receive...the sword of the spirit which is the word of God"( Eph 6:17). The word "sword" in Greek is feminine gender and the word "spirit" is neuter gender. So it is important in this sentence to find out what is the antecedent of the relative pronoun "which". (i.e. What is the "which" referring back to?) The word "which" in this sentence is neuter, therefore it is referring back to the word "spirit" and not "sword." Thus this sentence means: "And receive...the sword of the spirit which (spirit) is the word of God."

SONSHIP

The Greek word for "sonship," "huiothesia," is made up of "huios," meaning "son," and "thesia," meaning "placing." This word is used by Paul to stress the fact that we were formerly aliens and have now become citizens. However, we are not only citizens, but sons of God who are being transformed into His image by partaking of the divine life. "Huiothesia" relates to both the act and the result of being made sons. It refers to the act of our being saved to become citizens, and the result of our becoming sons of God in the divine life.
