Welcome to my site which is dedictated to Formula Vee.This is hopefully also a good place for those interested in starting motor racing for the first time. Although there are certainly other places to find information on getting into motor racing, I want to give you my first hand opinions while they are fresh in my mind. As I write this I have just begun my journey as a racing driver, but I want this to be a place where you will eventually find race reports, results, information and much, much more.
Anything else you think should be here please feel free to Email me
Top Twenty Formula Vee –Things I’ve Learnt.
20. When you are going to scrutineering, don’t forget your piece of paper which tells the scroots that you’ve signed in and which session you are in.
19. Yellow cars attract lots of wasps during the summer months.
18. After you have taken all your bodywork apart for the scroots to look at make sure your car is buttoned back up properly afterwards.
17. Oil is impossible to see unless there is loads of it.
16. It only takes a tiny amount of oil to put you off the track.
15. Caution boards are tiny, static and almost impossible to spot. Marshals place these out when there is oil on the track or some other minor yet permanent hazard where it would be too painful for them to continually wave a yellow/red slippery surface flag.
14. Never buy a formula Vee with a steering box (like I did). Always make sure that it has a rack.
13. Try to get the car and driver weighed together before your first race. I’ve no idea how or where, but this way you won’t end up getting disqualified like I did.
12. The best form of ballast is to go to your local DIY store and get some lead flashing that they use on roofs. It’s malleable and comes at about 15 quid for 9 kilos. However, don’t eat it, or you will die.
11. Make sure that no water can get in your carburetors. A single drop will cost you the race.
10. You only need six signatures to lose your Novice Cross.
9. No one by the name of ‘Sig Withheld’ will ever sign your license.
8. If you aren’t sliding, you aren’t going fast enough.
7. Change gear just before 7000rpm.
6. Fourth gear in a Vee is very, very long.
5. If you are going to crash into a wall, aim straight at it- feet first. This way, you will do less damage to your car and have more money to spend on the physiotherapy you will no doubt require.
4. Always know what time it is on race day and know when and where you should be.
3. The most useful motor racing tool is Duck Tape. 90% of my car is now made of this.
2. Air pressures are 12 in the front and 14 in the back under dry conditions.
1. Plastic bags make the best carburetor covers while your car is either sat in the rain or being towed down a dusty motorway.
