ULTIMATE 2 PERFORMANCE SHOW

Jake Dee vs. Elisha: The Final Showdown!

Jake Dee – “Because of You”

Not bad, but some parts got quite pitchy like the 2nd chorus leading to the bridge because you tend to get sharp. I wished personally, that you ditch the 2nd verse, 2nd chorus, so you can showcase the last chorus, the climax. I didn’t like your arrangement, but for me, it was an in out performance. Not as great as the Final 3 week, but you had some nice moments. You could have picked out of 100s of songs…and honestly…”Angels Brought Me Here” would have been a great choice. This song choice was okay. So for me, it was just okay.

Ok Jake.. I think the song suited your voice well enough but it sounded like you struggled with it. You kept taking breaths in the middle of lines and some parts your enunciation wasn't up to par.. at one point you sang your line to early and made up for it by mumbling an ad lib until you got to the right spot. I think it came off as a song you just sorta pushed out but didn't put the effort in for. It didn't SOUND unpleasant, just sloppy.

Charly: Jake, this was OK. The background singers really distracted me and it didn't mesh well with your voice. But thats OK...I know its not your fault....its the damn background singers! Anyway....despite that, nothing really anything that stood out and impressed me. You've been consistent, though. Its just time now to kick it up a notch.

Jake Dee – “Half Crazy”

Steven: This was better, Jake. You finally picked a song that fits you and allows you to sing in your element. I’m glad you are singing that is what you’re all about. And you know what, I actually thought this was an impressive performance, one of your bests too. What can I say more? You picked something that is you, vocally matching, and it’s something that we didn’t hear much until now. So it was an impressive job.

Dean: I'm not familiar with this track so I listen with a fresh ear. It's a good match for your voice stylistically but it's not really a competition winner's performance. The song is a tad on the dull side and the whole thing, though well performed - doesn't have a wow factor and just isn't memorable. You're playing it safe this week and the finals isn't the time to do that.

Charly: The good news, this was a PERFECT song for you! Bad news, you ruined it by lowering the key way too much. It sounded like you were bored singing the song, and I know that wasn't your intent....but singing too low a key just zap the energy of the tone. In that sense, it was another safe performance.....BUT better than your first.

Jake Dee - "Follow My Dreams

Steven: To be honest, I hated the song and the performance. To me, the song itself lacked excitement, and the song lacked range. You try to get something going in the chorus, but overall the song was boring. It would have been great if you picked “In Your Eyes” to show some interpretation. But this was just average. I’m not a fan of the song, and it was just boring for me. It didn’t have enough wow to it.

Dean: I don't think it was a wise choice to turn down the sim idol winner's single however - vocally this song isn't bad.. even lyrically it's decent. Stylistically it fits your voice well, but there was some lacking in the overall flow of the song. When you're dealing with repetitive, simple, loop-based music it's always helpful to add different background vocal layers and other devices to switch it up a little. Your song had a lot of empty spaces and in the end came off as really unprofessional, like a really early working demo. Potential is good but as a finished product it's not there yet.

Charly: It takes guts to actually perform your own song for us. I agree with Dean, I think you should have some variations in the beat of the song, like more harmonies, or adding a another beat to the loop when you do the chorus. Singing wise, I really like this style you showed us. You had more energy in your vocals and you even had a falsetto. Good job!

Elisha - "Beautiful Disaster”

Steven: I actually felt out of all your ballad performances, this was the best. And it was a wise choice choosing the piano backing which to me allowed you to emote well. This was just amazing. I felt your emotion, the power, and your vulnerability. This is your best performance so far in the comp, and honestly one of the best highlights of the series. It was at league of Kelly Clarkson, if not, better. Amazing job! This round definitely goes to you.

Dean: SO glad you chose the slow arrangement of this track because the original is beautiful but this one definitely brings a new feel to the song. This allowed you to show all the colors of your voice which is something you have a knack for doing in your choice. You made it your own! the emotion was strong and you definitely win round one in this, the final showdown!

Charly: STANDING O! In the beginning, you sound so similiar to Carrie Underwood with the way you sang your notes. This was just an impressive vocal. Very emotional, very powerful, very soft when it needed to be. You really tugged my heart with this one. I think this is the best performance of not only this season but the WHOLE 2 seasons we've been doing this. My only problem is, I want to see you have fun already. I have yet to see you more uptempo songs.

Elisha – “No More Tears”

Steven: You are definitely on fire and on a roll! Wow, you definitely show the best in crunch time here. The attitude, the emotion, the vocals were all amazing. It’s something like this that I would hear again and again. It took two divas to rock this song; it only took one of Elisha to nail this song better than Donna Summers and Barbara Streisand. I totally prefer your version because it’s absolutely so appealing. You could rock the 70s with that too. It was all psychadelic grooviness which I totally dig! Although Jake did great with his 2nd performance, you are just at a league on your own. You got it two for two now. Phenomenal!

Dean: Sounds like you're going out with a bang! Another great choice of song. It sounds like you had a blast on this track. We haven't heard a lot of uptempo from you in the competition so it's great to hear this from you. This performance made me want to dance! You had the perfect balance of attitude and skill. You're a powerhouse! Wonderful Job!

Charly: I retract my last statement about my only problem. 2 for 2! Elisha, you are on your "A" game this week. AND FINALLY! An uptempo song. At the bridge of the song, you got ahead of music for a second, but you recovered well. BUT...those notes after....my GOD! Disco Diva! Finally glad to see someone make me dance this season!

Elisha – “In Your Eyes”

Steven: Although the lyrics tend to be a bit sappy, this song shows a ton more in my eyes. It was a great song for you, but obviously you can sing anything. It seems not much can stop you. You did the song justice, and overall another great job. I think if we can tweak the instrumental a bit and add a bit more to it, it would have unbelievable potential. For me, you nailed it tonight, it’s three for three. Hopefully Saturday night, Tony W. will say “The winner of Sim Idol 2006 is Elisha!” You definitely deserve to win Sim Idol.

Dean: The instrumental arrangement was a tad cheesy and midi-like in parts but you did a wonderful job vocally. The song almost presents itself as a love song from a broadway show. It has that theatrical quality to it. Your voice was strong and you were definitely feeling this song. I think you're 3 for 3. If you don't win this, then the internet voters aren't listening to the same show I am. You came to win, and in my eyes you've succeeded!

Charly: OK, when I first saw the lyrics to this song.....I thought.....I hope this doesn't turn out to be SUCK-Y. Thank God for you Elisha. You definately have star quality in your tone and you made this song come alive! Great job! You hit the grand slam for tonight.....3 for 3.
