Silvershark Fossils

Enter the realm of the prehistoric shark

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

More than 450 million years ago, the first sharks started swimming in the oceans of the world. In that time they have evolved into a variety of shapes and sizes from the familiar torpedo shaped design that we commonly consider a shark to be today, to those that were completely bizarre. Based on my personal collection of shark fossils, this site will take you on a tour of the history of sharks. Find out how they may have lived, what threats they faced, and what other animals shared their ocean realm.

Each section is based on a fossil in my collection, and as a result new sections will be added regularly. Where several fossils originate from the same site, these are often combined to show how these animals may have interacted with each other. A "Quick Info" box provides the basic information about each one, including their family and order, size, location of the fossil and what the shark probably ate. To find out more about the biology of sharks, check out the information provided at the Shark Trust Website.

Finally, I hope you all enjoy the tour!
