Hemp Project

This is what we are going to make! The knots used for this hemp anklet or hemp bracelet (whatever you wish) are the square knot and the switch knot.

This pattern is using 20# test hemp twine and 3 wooden beads. The size of this piece of jewelry is 9 inches.

What you will need:

Macrame board (or something to pin your work down on)

3 Beads…any type of bead that you wish.

20 # hemp twine

Patience

Please note: This pattern is for personal use only. If you wish to use it for commerial use, be nice and contact me for permission.

Step 1:

Cut 4 stands of hemp about 45-50 inches. ( I like to have extra length for good measure ) Take a look at how much cord do I need post to help you with understanding how I came to this length.

Tie all strands in an overhand knot, leaving about 3-4 inches of extra cord before the knot. (these are used to tie together for a closure)

Step 2:

Pin your knot down and make square knots for about 1 3/4 inches. Some people like to count the square knots, I don’t, I just measure in inches

Step 3:

Make a switch knot. Make sure you measure how long you make the switch knot because when you make the next switch knot you are going to want to make it the same size. I made mine about an inch long.

Step 4:

Add your bead! Your only going to add the bead on the center two strands (which are your knot bearing cords) and then make a square knot

Step 5:

Make another switch knot. (Remember to make it the same length as the first one)

Step 6:

Repeat Step 4 then step 5 two more times.

Step 7:

Now make square knots until the end of your jewelry piece. For this piece it will be 1 3/4 inches. (It should be the same length as step number 2) then make an overhand knot and

you are DONE!

Cut any extra length of cord left over after your overhand knot, but make sure you leave 3 or 4 inches you that you can tie it to the other end for closure

How to make Pearl Bridal Earrings on a wire

Make a Pair of Bridal Earrings With Kidney Ear Wires and Genuine Pearl Hearts Jewelry Making Pattern

Let's get started!

Step 1

Start by sliding one freshwater pearl heart on your ball pin along with a gold filled accent bead, a rice pearl bead, another gold filled accent bead, and top it off with another rice pearl bead. You should do this for two ball pins and they should both look similar to the diagram.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2

Take your round nose pliers and grab the ball pin about ½” from the top. Then take the top of the ball pin and bend it over to the right. By bending this wire out to the right, you are able to make a more perfectly round hole.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3

Now bend the top of the ball pin wire around the small part of your round nose pliers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4

Then wrap the end of the ball pin wire around itself a couple of times. Trim any excess wire off neatly with your flush cutters. Try to trim the wire as closely as possible to prevent it from snagging. You may also want to file off the rouge edges. Your earring should now look like the one in the diagram.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 5

Follow the same procedure on a second ball pin. When you finish, you should have two that look similar to the ones pictured.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 6

Now take two more ball pins and cut them off about ½” from the top to make them shorter than the first ones you did. Then slide a heart pearl and a rice pearl onto each one. Follow the same loop procedure as you did on the first ball pins. You should end up with something similar to the ones pictured.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 7

Take your last two ball pins and cut them off about ½” from the top just like the previous set. Slide only one heart pearl on these two ball pins. Follow the same loop procedure as you did on the previous ball pins. You should end up with something similar to the ones pictured.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 8

Now take your 4 inch piece of 22 gauge gold filled half hard wire and bend it around your 8mm mandrel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 9

Next, hold your wires where they cross with the tip of your chain nose pliers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 10

Now pull the wire ends down as seen in the diagram.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 11

Using your flush cutters, clip one of the wires about ½” from the loop. This will make the hook that will go through the ear.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 12

Mark your round nose pliers with a sharpie pen at the point where you want your circle to be. The circle is where you will hang the ball pins you have already made.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 13

Now bend your wire around your round nose pliers at the spot that you marked in the previous step.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 14

Next grab the wire with the tip of your round nose pliers and bend it around the back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 15

Take your flush cutters and snip off the wire to make a catch for the ear wire. Your kidney ear wire should look similar to the one pictured. (See diagram.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 16

Repeat the process for the other kidney ear wire, but make sure you go the opposite direction with the bends of the second one so your ear wires will fit each ear correctly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 17

Now attach your ball pins that you made in the beginning steps to the loop at the bottom of your kidney ear wires. They should dangle on top of each other. Now you have a finished pair of bridal pearl earrings that look great and sell great!

How to Restring Pearls

How to Restring Pearls..EASY.Method ( as I found at www.karipearls.com )

Needed supplies for how to restring pearls:
1. Beading wire--will be made into a needle or a purchased beading needle
2. Silk or synthetic thread
3.
Pearls
4. Clasp
Ok, let's get started: (Make sure your hands are squeaky clean).
1. Cut a length of thread maybe 4-5 times the length of your present necklace.
2. Cut a piece of beading wire about 6 inches long, fold in half and cut the ends at an angle, making sort of a point.
3. Place the silk thread between the bent wire-needle. Your "needle" is now threaded.
4. String the entire group of pearls onto this single silk thread using the wire-needle. The thread should be single and not double through the pearls at this point.
5. Tie one end of the clasp onto the silk thread and send the wire-needle back through the last pearl, heading in the opposite direction from the clasp.
6. After sending the needle and thread back through the last pearl, tie a knot with the free end of thread around the thread already in the pearls. "Just like tieing a rope on a fence post"...
7. Continue back through the pearls, one by one, with the wire-needle and thread, tieing a knot behind each pearl as you go.
8. If wire-needle becomes dull, simple cut it again at an angle to sharpen up the point.
9. When complete...tie on the remaining clasp section.

How to clean Pearls

This is an easy method for how to clean pearls which you can safely do at home.

Thanks to my www.karipearls.com, for this tested care of pearls method.

Needed Supplies:

1. Clean leg of pantyhose, or Bridal Veil fabric.

2. Mild shampoo. some people like to use golden Breck.

3. Sink and warm water.

4. Towel

How to Clean Pearls:

1. Place soiled pearls, either loose or still in a necklace, bracelet or earrings into a pantyhose leg or a piece of bridal veil fabric and secure ends so pearls cannot escape.

2. Fill a sink with warm water and mild shampoo.

3. Place "bag" of pearls into water and shampoo mixture and gently message the pearls with the bridal veil fabric or pantyhose being careful not to put stress on the silk thread.

4. When you sense that the soil is removed, rinse with clear water.

5.Take pearls from "bag" and gently absorb moisture with a towel and allow to dry.
You may be surprised at how much pollution your pearls have picked up over the years.
www.karipearls.com has been working with pearls for a long time now and the last ones she cleaned for a friend were no longer gray, but a brilliant white once more.
Thank you,
www.karipearls.com , for this do-it-yourself way to cleaned soiled pearls.
The best you can do to keep your pearls in tip top shape is to take a soft cloth and wipe your pearls with it after each use. That way grime and body oils won't build up on them and in turn attract polluted air, smoke, etc.
But by all means....wear your pearls. They don't enhance anyone when in a box or drawer. Pearls are meant to be enjoyed and you deserve to wear something lovely.
And....don't just wear them for a wedding. Wear them often, even with blue jeans and casual clothes. Pearls have a way of making a lady feel very special...and we should feel special every day, don't you think?
