Sigma Chi was founded in 1855 at Miami University of Ohio and Colonized at the University of New Haven on March 22, 2008, as Sigma Chi Lambda, the brothers live by their ideals of friendship, justice and learning.  Membership in Sigma Chi is based on the theory of friendship among members sharing a common belief in an ideal as well as providing leadership opportunities for men on campus

Sigma Chi Lambda takes part in Philanthropic events on and off campus such as helping to plan Relay for Life, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club of New Haven, and taking parts in walks and runs in the area which benefit various causes. They also put on Derby Days, a week long philanthropic event that involves Greek participation from all organizations at the University.

Sigma Chi Lambda is socially active in mixers and events with the ladies of Delta Phi Epsilon as well as Phi Sigma Sigma. They also put on the annual Sigma Chi Swimsuit Show for charity. Sigma Chi Lambda is one of four affiliates of Sigma Chi in the state of Connecticut, maintaining strong relationships with their chapters at the University of Connecticut, Yale, and Western Connecticut State University. They believe that the social aspect of University life is properly structured along with strong philanthropic efforts as well as a good experience in the classroom.
