More details about the scholarship can be found out here.

Terms of Award

The scholarship has a number of benefits

  • maintenance allowance of S$2400 per annum
  • hostel accommodation
  • a one time S$200 settling in allowance
  • subsidized medical benefits and accident insurance
  • exemption from school fee (excluding miscellaneous fee)
  • Examination fee (one time only)
  • economy air passage at the starting and end of scholarship term

This is a non bonded scholarship and at the end of the two years, the scholars can decide to continue in Singapore or apply overseas.

In case a student wants to break the bond at any stage, he/she may do by paying the amount (+interest) of money he has already utilized from the scholarship. There will be a periodic assessment of the scholar's behaviour and academic performance and if it is not deemed satisfactory, his scholarship may be terminated. In case of termination the scholars need not pay the utilized amount, but if he wants to continue in Junior College, he/she has to pay for everything himself/herself.

Also, since the Junior Colleges in Singapore have a January to December term, the candidate has to drop one year in order to avail the scholarship.

Eligibility

Students who are Indian nationals and have completed standard 10 in the year of the scholarship application are eligible to apply. Applicants should posses a good academic record (at least 85% in boards) and should have English as their first language in the Standard 10 State/National examinations. Also, if they have to avail this scholarship, they have to take their name off from any other scholarship they might be holding.

Students from any field can apply. There is no specifications from the scholarship officers that only Non-Medical students can apply. Even if you are from a commerce or a medical background, you can still apply as you are not asked to specify this in the Portfolio or the Admission Test. However, they have an obvious liking for people from non-medical background because scholarships for university courses are mainly available for engineering courses. So thats why if you are NOT a Non-Medical student, better keep it a secret and even in the interview state that you intend to do engineering. Once you get the scholarship and arrive in Singapore, you will have the freedom to choose whatever subjects you want, even though it still may not be advisable to choose medicine related subjects.

Selection Procedure

Candidates have to look out for for the scholarship application which appears the Times of India (Delhi edition) or The Hindu or some of the popular newspapers in your locality. Multiple photocopies of that application can be generated. The application form has to be fully filled and has to be sent to Singapore along with a Portfolio and supporting documents. In addition to this, the application form can also be downloaded from here. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for admission tests in India in September. Candidates will then be further shortlisted for an interview in India in November. The current centres for admission test and interview are: Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
