Shiel Dancewear is situated at First Floor, 1 Westbourne Terrace, Shiney Row, DH4 4QT (Above costcutters).
The Proprietor, Shirley Shiel, has almost 30 years experience in making dance costumes. She started making costumes for her daughter Karen when she started dancing in 1980 and made such a good name for the quality of her costumes that when Karen opened her own dance school, the Karen Shiel School of Dance in 1998, Shirley decided to make a business of it. Firstly making costumes to order from home but costumes quickly started to take over her home so eventually she opened her first shop in 2001.
Since then things have gone from strength to strength and she now supplies uniforms and makes costumes for a number of local dance schools as well as national and international production companies and her costumes can now be seen up and down the country in competitions and shows and also onboard cruise ships and in theatres in many countries around the world but she still manages to hold on to that local familly run feel that is important to both herself and many of her customers who come back time and time again.
