the shetland experience 2008

trip itinerary

My outline plan was to:

  • Travel to Aberdeenshire on November 10th to stay with a relative (my mother-in-law) before boarding the ferry in Aberdeen to Shetland
  • Overnight on Northlink Ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick, Shetland leaving on November 14th
  • Arrive on Mainland Shetland, then to Yell then Fetlar on November 15th
  • Three days on Fetlar - hoping to visit the local school, undertake some local walks and maybe worship at service held at SOLI
  • Travel to Hermaness on November 18th to view Muckle Flugga at the northern tip of Unst, the northern-most place in the UK
  • Spend some time working my way south through the Shetland islands to see some of the sights
  • Leave Lerwick on November 28th to Kirkwall, overnight on Orkney, leaving Stromness early on November 29th for Scrabster near Thurso, Caithness
  • Travel west along the north coast of Sutherland to Tongue for two nights retreat at a small Christian retreat house leaving on November 30th
  • Travel south to Ullapool, then Culloden near Inverness
  • Continue south via Fort William to Onich, crossing the Coran Ferry on December 6th then to Mull and Iona for a week with the Iona Community
  • Leave Iona and Mull on December 13th and make my way home stopping overnight on the way south
  • I then will take time off with my family until January 2nd 2009
  • Now read the blog to see what happened!
