the user’s path during the night hours. 2-handed weapon. Can also be
used as a walking stick. Was given to Anri by her true mother, Queen
Mae, before she left to find her long-lost sister, Nina.
Magic;
See magic section below.
Other Skill(s):
Steal; Anri learned how to steal when she was 7 years old. Usually, she would just use this skill to keep herself from starvation.
Pick Lock;
Yet another skill she learned when she was 7. She can open simple locks
with a hairpin or a metal wire and can usually correctly figure out
combination locks within 3 tries or less.
Stealth; A skill
she developed on her own, Anri is able to move quickly and silently
through the shadows. This is normally used to get away with stealing
food to survive. She has been caught stealing a few times, but she
usually has successful escape attempts.
Armor: Anri wears
a thick animal hide under a worn green leather shirt. She also has
metal arm and shin guards on her arms and legs. She has a holster
behind her back for her crossbow and a small quiver containing crossbow
bolts. She has worn green shorts and simple brown leather shoes with
thin soles (due to traveling so much) as well as a torn beige cloak
tied over her back. She also carries a small pouch around her neck
containing a little money she finds lying around.
Description:
Since Anri has been starved for most of her life, she is very skinny
for her age. Usually, she would be covered in dust and dirt from
traveling to random towns and villages. She seems completely human upon
first glance, but with closer inspection, you could just barely see her
pointed ears sticking through her somewhat messy hair.
Anri is
rather quiet and tries to keep to herself. But if she sees someone in
trouble, she tries to help in any way she can. She is a bit shy in
public and usually just stands aside and watches/listens to what’s
going on.
History: The kingdom of Elkarion was at war
with the kingdom of Karne. King Zylo had three children at the time –
Max, Nina, and Lowe. At the time, his wife, Queen Mae (a partial elf),
was six months pregnant to another child (Anri). One night at the peak
of the war, assassins were sent into the castle from Karne, acting as
wounded soldiers from Elkarion. While King Zylo and his family were
asleep, the assassins sneaked into the children’s rooms, murdering Max
and Lowe as well as kidnapping Nina. As a couple of the assassins took
Nina out of the castle, a few more searched the castle. One of the
assassins found the King’s chamber and crept silently towards the
King’s sleeping figure, wielding a poisoned dagger in hand. Just as the
assassin held the blade over Zylo’s heart, Queen Mae awoke from a
nightmare and saw the assassin. She let out a loud scream, startling
and awaking Zylo. The assassin quickly plunged the blade into Zylo’s
shoulder and took off, leaping out the window. The guards came moments
later, reporting that the princes were dead and the princess was
kidnapped. As the days passed, King Zylo developed a fever due to the
poison. The castle’s alchemists were unable to find an antidote before
Zylo’s death, leaving Mae to rule Elkarion alone with her unborn child.
Three
months later, Anri was finally born. Mae recognized Anri’s elvish
traits and remembered the magic that have probably been passed down
from her elven bloodline. She decided to try and protect Anri in any
way she can. After a year, she decided to allow a peasant family in the
nearby village raise Anri as their own with only two requirements; they
give Anri a new name and return her to the castle once she was sixteen.
The family agreed and raised Anri as Alys Ravenswood.
When Anri
turned 7, she discovered that she can cast fireballs from the palms of
her hands…unfortunately, this resulted in accidentally burning her
small bedroom to the ground. Elric and Janet (Anri’s foster parents)
were rather poor and could barely afford the repairs for the house.
While making the repairs, they decided to try and teach Anri how to
control her magic (Such as when and when not to use her Fireball…) and
some other minor tricks (such as stealing and lock picking). It only
took a few months to master thievery, but it took almost three years
before she finally mastered her Fireball spell.
Finally on Anri’s
16th birthday, Elric and Janet were going to take a wagon of goods up
to the castle and asked Anri to come along with them. Anri was excited
about finally going into the castle. Once they entered the castle,
Elric went to put the goods away and Janet escorted Anri to Queen Mae.
After introductions and such, Anri was finally told that she was
actually Mae’s daughter…not Elric and Janet’s. Even after hearing about
her brothers’ murders, the King’s death, and her sister’s kidnapping,
Anri didn’t want to believe any of it and ran back towards the village
in tears.
Halfway back to the village, however, Anri heard some
talking from a distance. Thinking it might be Elric and Janet coming to
look for her, she climbed up a tree and hid within the branches and
leaves. Peeking out of the branches carefully, she discovered a small
group with black cloaks and short swords heading up towards the castle.
Not quite sure what was going on, she decided to follow them silently
at a distance. Once they reached the castle, Anri saw the group kill
the guards and head inside the castle. Fearing the lives of the queen
as well as Elric and Janet’s, Anri ran into a side door of the castle.
Once inside, she found she had wandered into the armory. She picked a
light weapon (the crossbow) and grabbed a quiver of bolts (crossbow
arrows) and headed to the throne room. The group were almost upon the
queen and Anri prepared to fire a bolt…and saw that Mae managed to keep
them back with her own magic. Anri was shocked to see that the queen
could also use magic…giving her the idea of using her fireballs to help
keep them at bay. Since she could fire the crossbow one-handed, she
alternated between firing bolts and shooting fireballs at the
attackers. After a few minutes, the attackers fled the castle and Anri
went to Mae’s side to check on her. Luckily, she wasn’t harmed during
the attack. It still took a while before Anri was convinced she was
Mae’s daughter.
After a year, Anri decided to go and look for her
lost sister, Nina. She brought along simple armor and tried to leave in
the middle of the night. Mae discovered her trying to leave and took
Anri into her room. Anri sat down, expecting to be scolded…but to her
suprise, Mae brought out the Stellar Crystal Rod and gave it to her as
a parting gift. Anri, still a little surprised she wasn’t trying to
keep her in the castle, gave her final farewell and left the castle.
Anri has been traveling from town to town and village to village, in
search for her sister…hoping she’s still alive.
More in Depth:
Anri tries to attack with her crossbow and take down enemies while
they’re still at a distance, but uses her Stellar Crystal Rod whenever
she’s in close combat. She will usually use her spells to protect
herself/throw her opponents off guard. At times, she will even loot the
enemy’s dead body for some extra cash or healing items.
List of Spells
Fire Spells:
Fire magic came to Anri naturally through her elven blood. After she
acquired the Stellar Crystal Rod, she discovered that she could use
more and even stronger magic with the help of the meteorite crystals.
Her fire spells are as follows;
Fire Ball: This is the only
spell that Anri can cast without the help of the Stellar Crystal Rod. A
small sphere of flames is formed in Anri’s palm and can be fired at a
given target. Anri can only fire one sphere at a time and it can be
easily dodged.
Flame Shield: Can be casted with the help of
the Stellar Crystal rod. A wall of fire flows from the crystals and
protects Anri directly in front of her. (Meaning her sides, back, and
directly overhead are still open for attack.) The shield can be doused
with water or it can be lowered if Anri is attacked or thrown
off-guard. Anri cannot use her crossbow while she has her shield up.
(Considering her hands are full by holding the rod.)
Flash Flare:
Can be casted with the help of the Stellar Crystal Rod. The light that
emits from the crystals flashes brilliantly, hindering the enemy’s
sight for a few seconds. During that time, Anri can either turn and run
or attack while her foe is off-guard.
Ice Spells; Anri was
able to learn how to use ice spells thanks to the Stellar Crystal Rod.
All of her ice spells are casted with the help of the Stellar Crystal
Rod. Her ice spells are as follows;
Frost Beam: A beam of
mist and small shards of ice fires out from the crystals. If a person
is exposed to the ice shards long enough, it can cause frostbite.
(Which is really the most damage it can do to a person.) Anri usually
uses this spells as another way to catch someone off-guard before
attacking.
Projectile Cicle: Cold energy intensifies near the
crystals and form a large icicle. The icicle is then fired towards a
given target at enough speed to penetrate a person’s armor. This spell
can also be easily dodged.
Freeze: Cold energy is casted upon
an object/person and encases him/her/it in a thin layer of ice,
trapping him/her/it momentarily. The ice can be broken with strength/a
blunt object or melted away with enough heat.
