A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL

The meeting room of the Southland Restaurant was really rocking on April 1, 2008 as several members of the class of 1957 got together and had a great time visiting with each other and talking about old times but also remembering classmates from oh so long ago.

At the gathering were Juanita Black Rickard, Braxton Ashe, George Aston, Sue Barber Suazo and her husband Joe, Mary Ann Hayes Wadkins, Faye Horton Chastain, David Johnson, Carolyn Judd Wagnon, Albert Kelly, Glenda Ramsey Hale, Frank Vetters his wife Sandra, and Clay White (not in photograph).

Back Row: Frank, George, and Albert.
Middle: Juanita, Nancy, Sue, Joe, and Braxton
Front: David, Mary Ann, Faye, Carolyn, and Glenda.

In addition we were very pleased to have Nancy Bolton Borden visit with us for the first time.  Nancy looks great and says that she is doing just fine.  She is now living in Tuscaloosa near one of her children after living in Birmingham where she worked for several years.  She is now retired but says that she keeps very busy.  It was so good to see her know that she is doing so well.

The main thing that was discussed was to begin firming up plans for our planned get-together in June.  The date has been set for June 7, 2008 and we will plan to meet at the new cafeteria of good old Sheffield High School from 10:00 a.m. until ??,  We plan on having Subway bring in sandwiches just as we did at the 50th Reunion (cost of $5.00 each) and we will provide drinks and chips.  We will ask for each person to plan on providing $15.00 for the total cost of the get-together.

We plan on having an unstructured get-together to just meet with former classmates, eat and have a good time together.

We ask that you let Juanita know by calling her at 256-764-8473 to let her know how if you are able to come and if you will bring someone else.  Or, you can e-mail Frank V. at vetters1960@comcast.net with this information.

We need to know as early as possible how many are coming so please let us know by May 1, 2008.  We hope that you can attend, but if not, always remember that each of you is very special, because you are a member of a very special class, the Sheffield High School Class of 57, and that means we graduated 51 (can you believe it?) years ago.

At the gathering, as we discussed classmates, there were no real serious problems that we knew of about any of them.  We all just concluded that we are just very pleased to still be around and enjoying life as we near our older (not old) age.

Juanita mentioned that she had been told that the Class of 57 was “notorious” for all the things that we have done getting our class together and doing all of the other things such as our class book and our web page.  She said that was a good feeling.  The other classes as they now get together are going to the High School for their get-togethers and reunions, just as we did.  We are fortunate that the current principal of the school has been so cooperative with us.

We had gotten so used to having George Ingleright at the gatherings and when he did not show up, we called to check on him.  George said that he was all right, but had just not checked his e-mail lately so the time for the gathering just slipped up on him.  He said to tell everyone hello and that he would sure look forward to seeing everyone that can make it to our get-together in June.

Remember, each member of the class of 1957 is very special and we hope to hear from you and better yet, visit with you very soon.
