Our Golden Anniversary

Sheffield High School Class of 1957

Many Thanks to these classmates for the many hours they spent organizing the exciting event of June 16, 2007

Braxton Ashe, Juanita Black,
Mary Ann Hayes, Jerald Homan,
David Johnson, Frank Vetters
Glenda Ramsey withdrew due to a foot injury.

Frank Vetters

Our cub reporter and fearless leader.  Frank gave us a wonderful program in the SHS auditorium on reunion day.    As a result of his research we were transported back through fifty to sixty-two years and our years in the Sheffield, Alabama school system.   Truly, a great time was had by the forty-three class members plus family who met in the SHS auditorium on June 16, 2007.  Thanks for the memories.

Braxton Ashe

Braxton took over as fearless leader when Frank escaped to Belgium for four months.   At the dinner we witnessed Braxton's hidden talent as an auctioneer.  That story later.  Forty-eight class members plus friends and family attended the dinner.  Including two who were not at both lunch and dinner, a total of fifty members of the 1957 graduating class came together on June 16, 1957.

Juanita Black Rickard

Juanita, our Nancy Drew,  found all of our classmates and is the keeper of addresses and general information.   Even though she left Sheffield High School to graduate at Mars Hill, Juanita is the General  who keeps us organized.  When we lose a classmate she arranges for flowers and visits the funeral home when one of us loses a family member.

David Johnson

David is always at our gatherings and available for what needs to be done.  He and Mary Ann scouted venues for our reunion and made selections for the menu.

Mary Ann Hayes Wadkins

Mary Ann never misses one of our gatherings.  She and David chose the location and menu for our dinner.  We had an absolutely delicious dinner.

Jerald Homan

As the treasurer of the senior class of 1957 Jerald found himself handling that same office fifty years later.    Jerald inherited an added responsibility was the collection of funds for the Sheffield Education Foundation.  The goal for each class in a dollar amount equal to the year of graduation.  We nearly doubled our $1957.

Glenda Ramsey Hale

Glenda is always at the gatherings.  Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from the Reunion Committee when she injured her foot.

The Class of 1957 Webmaster

Betty Lou Davis Raby

This website was to be a temporary project to keep classmates informed during the time leading up to the reunion.  But!!  At the request and encouragement of several classmates, it will continue.

I knew nothing about creating a website and have learned so much.   Louis Buettner, Class of 1956,  was most helpful and his terrific website a great inspiration.   The website was free but the free space soon disappeared so I paid for the first year.  To pay the annual costs of  keeping the site going Janet Jensen suggested we auction a decorative plate with the picture of  our Sheffield High School.   The site is now funded for at least two years!   Thanks to all who bid and to Buddy Phillips for a most generous winning bid.
