We have a small kennel of twelve dogs,my husband Alex and I live on the West coast of Scotland. All our dogs have been worked and some shown over the years. Our primary aim is to enjoy working them, as that's what their original function was. This is a great hobby and if you do start to work them, be warned your life style could be changed forever. The dogs age from 4 to 14 and over the years have regularly been placed competively in the top three at rallies, some are slowing down now but aren't we all. Its still a pleasure to see them enjoy working though and surely that's what its about.
finishing at the top end of the scale is a credit to them.....but that doesn't last forever
however, the bond you develop does.
I won't pretend its not hard work and caring for them takes up alot of our spare time, but we made the choice and are commited to that until they leave us......yes, there are alot of tears ahead, so its best we try and enjoy every minute we have with them.
We sincerely hope the information on this site is helpful to anyone thinking of having a Siberian Husky and that you learn as much as possible before deciding if this is the dog for you, it’s better to be honest with yourself if it’s not. There are many other breeds to look at and you’ll find the one to suit your lifestyle. If you care to read the Health section or links you’ll find out more.
Sibes are a working breed and intelligent hence the stringent vetting every good breeder will put you through. They need lots of exercise and company so you really need to be an outdoor person and enjoy walking because they cannot be let off the lead. You’ll find out more about the reasons why as you do your research. Always buy from a reputable breeder and one of the best ways to do this is from someone who is a club member, enquires can be made through the club secretaries see the links .
Buying from a club member means the dam and sire are hip scored and eye tested and members must abide by the clubs rules and constitution. Dogs will be registered through the Kennel Club. If you care to read the Health section you’ll find out more.
