Parents and Video games |
| |
Yes, my first rant has to do with one of my most favorite things on the planet and people trying to get rid of them.
I love how parents are complaining about how their children are becoming violent and evil thanks to video games, but they fail to watch the news and see all of the violence there. On the evening news last night, I watched a hostage situation, a car chase, shootings, riots, and a hate rally. Back when I worked in Gamestop, parents would come in and buy games such as Gears of War and Dead Rising for their 12 year old kids, and come back yelling at us about how they didn't know what was in the games, where no matter who bought the game, we all told them exactly what the game contained and how much of it was there. I shit you not, I had a mother come in and she yelled at ME about how she bought Gears of War for her 12 year old and now he's having nightmares from it and acts more violent than ever. I remembered this woman coming in the week before and I was the one who told her that it contained violence, blood, strong language, and it's NOT for kids! AND SHE HAD THE FUCKING BALLS TO YELL AT ME! Another woman bought Playboy: The Mansion for her 14 year old son, but didn't know that it was explicit and had a lot of sexual themes. Seriously, What about PLAYBOY doesn't suggest...umm...I dont know... SEX?????!! Are these parents seriously this fucking dim that they don't heed our warnings? Every kid looking to buy something like Dead Rising, Gears, Soldier of Fortune, and Prey that came in with their parents, and when I say, "This game contains strong violence, sexual situations, blood, language, etc." they ALWAYS said, "yeah, whatever, we're buying it." And they would come in the next day bitching, and moaning about how it was too violent, and about how WE don't explain how it wasn't fit for their kids. Either this, or they'd blame us for the kid's grand parents buying it for them. I watched some woman yell at the guy at the desk for selling Dead Rising to the kid's grandma for a Christmas present! Sometimes I wish I could've beaten these people over the head with the fucking cash register! GAH!!! I also love how when an adult goes on some crazy shooting spree (Which is on the evening news), it's because of a bad childhood, or because they are poor or something, but when a kid goes on a shooting spree, it's video games. I've been playing games pretty much since birth, and I've NEVER had the urge to go and shoot up my school, even when I have access to all of those cool toys you see in the shooting section of this site. I fucking hate how Video games are paying the price for these kids seeing violence pretty much EVERYWHERE they look! I think that it's the parents who are at fault here, if they don't want their children exposed to this shit yet, They should be more aware of what their kids have and play! Maybe put the games in an area where they can view exactly what's being played, setting parental controls on the game systems (Yes, you can do that!), even checking the memory cards for saves from these games. Now, I won't deny the fact that there are some pretty fucked up games out there with explicit violence and sex and whatnot, but if parents are worried about their children being exposed to this, then they should be a little more fucking aware of what their children are playing!
Wow, it was nice to blow off a little steam.

Guns |
| |
Yes, the infamous issue about guns. Are they good, or the root of all evil?
Alright America, I'm tired of all of these people who just sit back and chant, "Guns kill people!" and try to get them banned. Sure they do, but they can't do shit without someone there doing it. GUNS CANNOT THINK! They can't decide, "Yes. I will go out and kill 23 people today." I really don't like the show American Dad, but there was one moment on the show that made me stand up and clap. The daughter was in a "Guns are evil! Guns kill and do nothing else!" So her father took out his gun, placed it on the table, and said, "Go ahead gun. kill someone. It's alright, you won't get in trouble." This is one of the main reasons I won't be voting for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming election. She is going to be trying to get rid of guns across the US. I can go out and kill someone with a number 2 pencil, or a nail file, but you don't see someone trying to outlaw pencils or nail files! Now if Hillary Clinton or someone who is all anti-gun does get elected and this does go through and guns are banned, I can't wait for the white house to be taken over, where the secret service can't shoot back, because GUNS ARE BANNED! But hey, of course people at the white house will have guns. I subscribe to the saying, "Guns don't kill people, People kill people." Last time I said that out in public, some woman came up to me and said, "No, the person isn't doing the killing. The person isn't shooting the piece of metal out at hundreds of miles per hour," And that story is no lie. Sure, the bullet isn't coming from the person, but the person is causing the bullet to fly out in the first place! You can kill people with just about anything, if you use it correctly! I can crumple up a piece of paper and shove it down someone's throat, I can use a pencil and shove it up someone's nose, scrambling their brain, I can beat someone to a bloody pulp with a baseball bat, I can slit someone's throat with a CD, I can shove a ton of feathers down someone's throat, I can take a flag, roll it up, and wrap it around someone's throat and hang them! Sure, I'm not saying that guns aren't dangerous. Guns are quite dangerous in the wrong hands, people should know more of the positive aspects of guns and shooting. Hell, it provided me with something to do, I just go to the shooting range once a week, shoot a few dozen holes in a piece of paper, make a ton of friends, meet cool people, and go cool places. I'm sick and tired of people who sit back and say that guns are evil because all they do is kill.
Well, that's all I have to say about that.
