Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha (うちは イタチ Uchiha Itachi?) is a missing-nin from Konohagakure and is partnered with Kisame Hoshigaki. During his time in Konoha, Itachi's prodigious talents and rapid development into a skilled ninja earned great attention from his family, the Uchiha clan.[15] He eventually began to train under Madara Uchiha in secret, murdering his best friend, Shisui Uchiha, to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan.[16] He soon joined forces with Madara in the massacre of the Uchiha clan, sparing his younger brother, Sasuke Uchiha. Knowing that the blindness brought on by possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan could only be cured by taking the eyes of one's sibling, Itachi spared Sasuke so he could someday take his brother's eyes.[17] Hoping that Sasuke might obtain his own Mangekyo Sharingan by then, Itachi encouraged his younger brother to live hating him and striving to avenge the clan. [18] At some point in time Itachi joined Akatsuki. The timeline that has been given throughout the series coupled with his age suggests that he joined the organization prior to killing his clan.

Despite his status as a wanted criminal and murderer, Itachi does not display any open enjoyment in violence or combat. Itachi instead prefers to avoid battle or, if that is not possible, end it quickly while exerting as little effort as he can.[19] When he does fight Itachi remains stationary, attacking only in defense and to otherwise avoid damage. He also studies an opponent's movements with his Sharingan eyes, using them to properly assess an opponent's actions and respond accordingly. With his Mangekyo Sharingan, Itachi can utilize attacks such as Tsukuyomi (月読 literally "Moon Reader"?), a genjutsu that can torture an opponent for what seems like days in a matter of moments; as well as Amaterasu (天照 literally "Shining Heaven"?), a powerful ninjutsu that casts black flames ten times hotter than the sun.[20] Itachi is also very adept with standard genjutsu, and can trap others within an illusion by merely pointing or looking at them,[21] as well as turn their own genjutsu against them. He is also noted to be extremely fast with his techniques and movements, extending to his hand signs and weaponry as well. [22]

Itachi is a popular character in the series, normally ranking in the Top Ten of the Shonen Jump popularity polls. However, in the latest poll he ranked 11th.[23]

[edit] Madara Uchiha

Main article: Tobi

Madara Uchiha (うちは マダラ Uchiha Madara?) spent his early life in constant competition with his younger brother. Being equal in every respect, the two constantly trained to outdo each other, leading to each acquiring their own Mangekyo Sharingan. Together they took control of the Uchiha clan, with Madara as its leader. Though it gave him immense power, the Mangekyo Sharingan eventually left Madara blind, and it was only by taking his brother's eyes that he regained his sight. Not only did this grant Madara a permanent Mangekyo Sharingan that did not cost the user their eye sight, but also gave birth to an entirely new eye technique as well as immortality. With this newfound strength, Madara and the rest of the Uchiha clan conquered and assimilated every clan they came across.

Madara's clan eventually banded together with that of the future First Hokage to create Konoha. Madara and the First disagreed on how to run the village, culminating in their battle at the Valley of the End. Madara lost, and was banished from Konoha. After his defeat, Madara created Akatsuki so that he could operate in the shadows, assuming the alias of Tobi. He later used his Mangekyo Sharingan to have the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox attack Konoha, though the fox was defeated by the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze. His plans foiled once again, he returned to Konoha, trained Itachi Uchiha, and assisted him in slaughtering all of the remaining Uchiha.

Obito Uchiha

Obito Uchiha (うちは オビト Uchiha Obito?) was the teammate of Kakashi Hatake and Rin under Minato Namikaze. He was frequently late for missions as a result of what he claimed were random good deeds he'd carry out along the way. Obito often spoke without thinking, a trait that Minato considered a flaw, but was very impassioned and persuasive in doing so. He also had a crush on Rin. During the Kakashi Gaiden arc, Rin is kidnapped by enemy ninja. When Kakashi is unwilling to go and help her, Obito states that those who do not save their teammates are trash. Obito goes to save Rin by himself, though Kakashi, touched by his words, soon joins him. During their attempt to save Rin, Obito first manifests his Sharingan, and is later crushed in a rock slide when he pushes Kakashi out of the way. With their surroundings continuing to cave in on them and Obito unable to move, Obito gives Kakashi his remaining Sharingan eye as a gift to replace the eye that Kakashi himself lost. Kakashi and Rin are forced to leave him as the cave collapses, and Obito uses his last moments to wish he could have spent more time with Rin and the rest of his team.

Sasuke Uchiha (うちは サスケ Uchiha Sasuke?) is a fictional character in the Naruto universe created by Masashi Kishimoto and developed into a media franchise, consisting of a series of manga, anime, soundtracks, OVAs, movies, video games, and other collectibles. He was created as a rival and foil to the series' titular character, Naruto Uzumaki, with his design causing difficulties for Kishimoto during drawing the manga scenes, although he has grown to enjoy drawing Sasuke.[5][6]

In the anime and manga, Sasuke is a member of the Uchiha clan, a highly skilled clan of ninjas allied to the village of Konohagakure. His primary motivation throughout the series is to avenge the destruction of his entire clan by killing his brother, Itachi Uchiha, a task he pursues at all costs. While he was initially cold and singularly driven by his revenge, he becomes more empathetic through his relationships with other characters, notably Naruto Uzumaki, who he comes to consider as a rival. Sasuke has additionally appeared in two of the featured movies in the series, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow and Naruto the Movie 2: Great Clash! The Illusionary Ruins at the Depths of the Earth, as well as several other media relating to the series, including several video games and OVAs.

Several anime and manga publications have provided acclaim and criticism of Sasuke's character. While many reviewers have noted his cold and detached attitude and abilities, he has been viewed as a stereotypical "rival" in the mold of several similar characters in other shōnen manga.[7][8] His personality has also been subject to criticism, with many finding it difficult to like or sympathize with Sasuke's character; IGN jokingly labeled Sasuke as an "emo-kid."[7] Nevertheless, Sasuke has been highly popular with the Naruto reader base, placing high in several popularity polls.[9][10] Merchandise based on Sasuke has also been released, including action figures and plush dolls.[11][12]

Shisui Uchiha

  • Age: ? (deceased)

Shisui Uchiha (うちは シスイ Uchiha Shisui?) was the best friend of Itachi Uchiha; in fact, Itachi thought of him as an older brother. Despite this, after Shisui appears to have committed suicide by intentionally drowning in a river, Itachi becomes the primary suspect in his death. Itachi later confirms that he murdered Shisui to obtain the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Fugaku Uchiha

Fugaku Uchiha (うちは フガク Uchiha Fugaku?) was the father of Sasuke Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha. He strongly believed that Itachi was the clan's future, and did all in his power to help achieve this goal. As a result he often neglected Sasuke. Itachi often forced Fugaku to spend time with his youngest son, though even then his mind was always focused on Itachi. His wife, however, stated that Fugaku often spoke of Sasuke when they were alone. Once Itachi began to distance himself from the clan, he and Fugaku had a falling out. As a result, Fugaku began to spend more time with Sasuke, coming to consider him the pride of the clan. After training Sasuke in the Uchiha clan's more basic jutsu, he instructed his youngest son not to follow in Itachi's footsteps. Fugaku was later killed by Itachi.
