Around the Block 2007

Day 6 (Cuzco) "Luke's B-Day!"

Today is Luke´s birthday, but we are pretending to have forgotten.  We ran all over the city looking for the parts we needed to get all the motos maintenanced and oil changed (Craig with air filter).  It has only been 1,500 km (about 1,000 miles) but with the hard riding and the dust, it is a good idea to change chains for the next part of the trip.

By 3:30pm we were ready to do some tourist stuff - after all we ARE in CUZCO!  So we jumped on the bikes (actually 2 bikes were still in the shop) and headed up to the INCAN fortress of SACHSAYHUAMAN.  The cost to get in was $25 because it was a whole day ticket for 10 places, so we just went up the hill where the fortress could be seen in the background and did some photo-shoots (pix).

We met a guy who organizes moto events in Cuzco and he set up a special evening for us (and Luke).  At 8 pm we went to a dinner-show (Pix) at the "IncaWall" with typical music and dances from Peru.  Right in the middle of the whole show (with 200 other people) the musicians broke into HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUKE ! as a cake arrived.  He was so afraid that the dancers were going to drag him up on stage!

I think that he will never forget THAT birthday (much less the trip which in a way is celebrating his coming of age).  The friends that have accompanied us this far have been GREAT and I know that we will miss them on the rest of the trip.  Tomorrow they head back towards Lima, via Nazca and up the coast.  We pray for their safety as the first day will be VERY long and cold...............
