Around the Block 2007

Day 30 (Tauru to Bonito) "Truely Bonito"

On our "return" back into Brazil, the customs officials told us that we would be going close to "the most beautiful place in Brazil", Bonito (which in Spanish/Portuguese means "pretty").  It looked like that would be almost exactly our possible distance to do in one day, so we set it as our goal.  It would mean some back roads, but we are tired of pavement, so "bring-it-on"!

Wind today, but not too bad.  Almost ran out of gas (and DID get lost once) trying to get to the next city in the afternoon where we needed to turn off northish to Bonito.  The supposed dirt road turned out to be the best pavement we have seen in days!  And all the way into Bonito!  Tried to video the setting sun as we entered the jungle-covered mountains (pix), but the lazer that records on the dvd won't work with the vibrations of the moto when mounted on the handlebars.  Oh, well...  a few stopped shots and we continued into Bonito.

Drove past the plaza and ran into the moto guys from yesterday who had decided to "detour" thru Bonito.  They led us to a good hostel where they were staying.  Won`t be able to see all the wonders here (tubing, freshwater scuba diving in limestone caves, etc), but now we know where it is for the NEXT TIME..............
