Around the Block 2007

Day 25 (St. Helena to Foz) "BRRRRR"

We made it !!!!!!  We are in Foz do Iguaçu, the town on the Brazilian side of the famous Iguazu waterfalls (I´m told it´s one of the "7 wonders of the world").

Rain had finally ended, but a "frio" had been ushered in.  The 120km to Foz was bitter (with ALL our gear on, even our rain stuff to break the wind)!  But we are here.  We are behind schedule and virtually out of R$ so we decide to go directly to the Argentina side to dry out.  We hit a "toll" and luckily we have the just enough R$.  Proud of ourselves that we cut it so close we head thru Brazilian emmigration and customs, and on to the bridge over the Iguazu river dividing Brazil from Argentina.

Of course we stop on the bridge (pix), take pictures, and then have a little ceremony.  We are soooooo glad to be done the struggle of trying to be understood in Portuguese with our Spanish.  We have done OK, but from now on it is only familiar Spanish.  Almost like we are home!  So I film Luke saying a few words, then tossing the little English-Portuguese dictionary over the 120 ft drop into the Iguazu river.  On to Argentina!

Thru immigrations into Argentina, we hit a snag in customs:  "You can´t bring the motos into Argentina because your "rental" contract doesn´t SAY you will be traveling thru Argentina."  "You must go back to Brazil, call Peru and have them send a new contract stating such...".

About that dictionary .............

Back on the Brazil side, we find a youth hostel, call Peru and request the expidited documents FEDEX.  Now to wait.....  But not too bad of a place to have to do it! .....
