Around the Block 2007

Day 24 (Rio Brillante to St. Helena) "Did I Say Stormy?"

Did it pour last night!!  Hope the clouds are empty....

Not much of a breakfast in this place, but we are off early.  We have 80 extra km to make up today.  In and out of Dourados without too much problem, but then the rain hits!  We don our rain gear and keep going... and going, and going.... (not that we stay dry, but it does "delay" the wetness and keeps out the wind.)

No stop for lunch (only gas), but by nightfall we are still 180km short of Foz do Iguazu.  The rain is coming down so hard we can hardly see the dotted yellow line on the road.  There is virtually no traffic on this little lonely road.  But the motos continue strong..  We are "creeping" along at 50kph (30mph) in the dark, but every 2min there is a lightning flash that lights up the whole scene before us!  We try to remember which way the road turned next in the picture "flashed" in our minds, but it gets confusing....

We have covered 60km more, but are mentally exhausted (and soaked, but not too cold) when we pull into a gas station for directions.  Talking with the folks there we decide weŽd better call it a day and stay in St. Helena tonight and roll easy into Foz tomorrow....

We are quite a sight slogging into the hotel lobby and up the stairs to our room.....
