Around the Block 2007

Quite a day ahead of us!  We have to push on and cover 653km today.  We don't get out until 8:30am because we are talking with some Chilean folks.  We stop every 100km for a "butt break" and some sugar.  Then a quick lunch and go again.  This will be a good test to see if we can cover this much ground.  (pix is Luke by some decals of moto-adventure people who have passed this way...  "Amazon Angels" says the large one!  Of course we place an "Around the Block" sticker beside them!)

It´s not just the challenge of driving the distance, but there are small mountains now and many more trucks..  These trucks are all double trailers and weave all over the place to miss the holes in the pavement and could easily take one of us out!

6:30pm and it is dark, but we are in Cuiaba!  This city stretches as far as the eye can see!  But by the time we convince a Taxi to show us the way to the SIL center, it is past 8pm.  There is no one at the 15 ft high gate and no way to use a phone (they require a special card).  So Luke climbs the gate, drops on the other side and goes looking for life.  "I hope this is the right place!"

Yes, and before long we are settled with fans and a shower!  Maybe we´ll stay here a month!.....  NEXT DAY: day20incuiaba.htm
