Trip Dates: June 19 - August 8, 2007
Route: Start in Pucallpa, Peru (jungle city on the Ucayali River) June 24th, 2007 with 9 other riders. Up into the Andes via Huanuco and Ayacucho to Cusco (the ancient capital of the Inca empire). There my son Luke and I say goodbye to our friends and drop down to the jungle again to Puerto Maldonado, crossing into Brazil at Inapari/Assis.
Then on through the jungle via Rio Branco, Porto Velho, Vilhena, Cuiaba, Campo Grande, Dourados and Fóz de Iguazú. We had hoped to return to Peru via Argentina, over the Andes Cordillera, into Chile and then back up the coast (as shown on map), but were turned back at the Brazil/Argentina border.

We were turned back twice at the border to Argentina as the motos were not in our names (rented), so we decided to get back to Peru via Bolivia. Honestly we had our qualms about Bolivia with the new President and his world views, but we found the Bolivians to be wonderful folk, even the officials, and the prices less than 1/2 that of Brazil!
We returned to Peru via a "back door" (around the backside of Lake Titicaca) as we had no moto paperwork showing we left Peru legally. Upon reaching Peru, we flew the motos to Lima (as we were behind schedule), put them back together and headed back east over the Andes. The following day we coasted down to Aguaytia where we hoped to meet our friends anew and celebrate the completion of
"AROUND-THE-BLOCK ".
but we had tire problems and missed our friends, so we drove through the night on into Pucallpa, our trip of 10,000 km complete!
Honda XR250 Tornado.

We chose these Honda XR250 Tornados because they are made in Brazil and parts are everywhere we will be traveling. Also they will not draw too much attention, and can easily be loaded into a canoe to cross a river. Try that with a 1200cc BMW!
We "leased" them from friends there in Pucallpa. We went with knobbies and regular sprockets due to the tough roads we traveled.
Who: Luke and Toby (Shannon), with the guys from the "Racing Club Las Mil Palmeras" from Pucallpa. .............
