WebDesign 101

1. CAVE DRAWING

DESCRIPTION: We actually did this in social studies a few days ago. Its a wonderful activity. My friends and I were giggling up a storm!

MATERIALS:

large, brown bag

pastels/chalk

table

pillow

flashlight

tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Put your bag on the plain side with no writing.
• Get underneath the table and tape your bag to the bottom of it, plain side facing the floor.
• Turn off the lights and get your flashlight.
• Put a pillow underneath the table, and lay down on it so that you're facing your taped paper.
• Now pretend the year is 3000. Alien people are trying to figure out what happened long ago. Your job is to make a "cave painting" or drawing representing your time in 2007. Think of things that mean a lot to you, or are important to people of 2007.
• Draw a picture of your idea. Use the flashlight to see your piece of paper, in the dark. The purpose of the darkness is to give the effect that you're a caveman. Outline your drawing first with chalk and color it with pastels. NOTE: This may be difficult but thats the point! Its fun and goofy!
• You've made your cave drawing!

2. POPSICLE STICK PUPPET

DESCRIPTION: Put on a show with some cool puppets! Great for simple productions. You can do this in 2 dimensional form or 3 dimensional form. Pick which one you like best!

MATERIALS:

2 popsicle sticks

paper

stapler

coloring tools

newspaper

scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:

*2 DIMENSIONAL*

• Draw the front side of your character on a sheet of paper.
• Turn the paper over and draw the other side of the character. Make sure the proportions match up or it'll look weird.
• Cut out.
• Glue the person to the top of two popsicle sticks.
• You've made your 2D figure!

*3 DIMENSIONAL*

• Draw the front side of your character on a sheet of paper.
• On another sheet of paper draw the other side of your character. Make sure the proportions match up.
• Cut out both.
• Put each side of your character back to back. Staple the edges of them, but NOT the bottom.
• Stuff newspaper into the bottom to make your character look solid and real.
• Glue the person on top of 2 popsicle sticks.
• Staple bottom of papers.
• You've made your 3D figure!

1. 70's BASH

DESCRIPTION: Rock the night away in a blast from the past party! Be a hippie, disco dancer, and more!

Guide:

Invitations: Get white construction paper from your local craft store and various water color paints in groovy colors! Using a paintbrush, splatter the water colors on the paper in any old way to make a cool tye-die pattern. Make sure the colors you splash togehter are compatible, so they don't turn out yucky. Let dry. Then cut the paper out into the shape of a flower. Write your party info and you've made one awsome invite!

Extra Invite Note: Ask for guests to come dressed up as 70's peeps!

Food & Drink: Make tye-die smoothies! Mix up your fave fruit and milk to make cool colors. Smiley cupcakes are fun too! Get yellow colored frosting and smear it on the top of a cupcake. Then add chocolate chips as eyes, nose, and mouth for your smiley! Too cute and fun!

Activities & Games: Watch the Brady Bunch and make some popcorn! Then have a hippie contest. Who can make the best imitations of hippies? Find out! Have a dance-off with groovy tunes from the 70s (ask your parents for ideas). And how should you end your super night? Play DQO! Come up with trivia questions, fun skit themes, and opinionated questions and put them on cards. Have people pick cards and answer the questions, and do the cool activities!!!

More Stuff: Take pictures of your friends in their best groovy dance poses! Then put it in a special 70's scrapbook and make copies for your pals!!!

1. SHANNON WORLD DESKTOP

DESCRIPTION: Make your computer shine with your very own Shannon World background!

HOW TO:

• Look around Shannon World for your favorite image (I recomend ones on the homepage). And choose which one you'd like to be on your desktop.
• Right click on your choice. A menu will come up. Click Save As.
• A small box that lists all your files will pop up and ask you to choose a name for the picture. This is the name it will be catergorized under when you look for it, so make sure its a name you'll know and remember. Type it in and press save.
• Now X out of whatever you're in. Click start on your desktop.
• Click control panel. A box will come up and ask you to pick what you want to do. Click Desktop.
• A box will pop up. All your picture files will be listed and you'll be asked to choose the one you want. Look up the name you saved your picture under. Click it.
• You can choose to have it appear on your desktop in 3 ways: tile (the picture repeated across your screen), center (the pic in the center of your screen with a colored background), or stretch (the pic takes up your entire screen). You can test different ones by pressing apply. When your happy with it, press apply and then X out.
• You have your brand new desktop!!!!
